Last weekend was beautiful here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since the feeling of spring was in the air my daughter and I went to our local retailer for a few outdoor supplies. We arrived home and set everything up in anticipation of some friends coming over.

When they arrived there was a Slip‘n Slide, a couple of Hippity Hops and other toys for the kids, as well as plenty of snacks and refreshments for us all. I’m so happy it was a hot day because the kids played in that Slip’n Slide for over 4 hours. We would make them temporarily stop when their lips turned blue and they were shivering but minutes later they would be back at it. This time of year always brings me back to my childhood and now I get to create those memories for my little one.

Happy spring!

Here in California the weather has changed. We are now experiencing more typical springtime conditions. It’s mostly sunny with brisk mornings and afternoons in the mid-60s to 70s. Sure we will get occasional showers but I’m hoping that’s it. What this means for us is a chance to get out the spring / summer clothing. Lilah wore her Le Top “School of Fun” racerback top and capri pants on Friday. She loves them for their comfort, bright colors, and fun fishes. I just think she looks adorable.

Yay spring! 🙂

Getting sandy in Santa Cruz! (Paulo is wearing "ship ahoy!" from Le Top's 2011 spring / summer collection.)

That’s right! While it was snowing in other parts of the United States, California had temperatures ranging in the 70s with full sun last weekend. Not a cloud in the clear blue sky! And instead of being cooped up at home watching the Super Bowl, we spent the day enjoying the beautiful summer-like weather in the middle of winter.

In typical Bay Area fashion, we dressed in layers leaving the house wearing pants and sweatshirts (and even throwing a coat in the car just in case). But I couldn’t believe that we all stripped down to shorts and t-shirts by lunch time! My daughter even wished she brought her bathing suit.

I guess the groundhog not seeing his shadow is true because spring is on its way over!

Office life can bring hours of munching, lots of caffeine, and a whole lot of sitting so we do our best to get outside and exercise at least once a day.  A good portion of our staff enjoys lunchtime walks around our quaint, industrial local. Two of my co-workers, TC and Dennis, took one such walk today, but received something a little extra than they had bargained for.

Dennis and TC after their surprise run in the rain and hail

The weather forecaster had predicted it was going to rain today, along with thunderstorms throughout the area.  Before TC and Dennis’ walk, it had appeared there were only partial cloudy skies, and they didn’t think twice about stepping out for their usual walk.  About halfway through their normal route, a swift moving storm blew in and the sky opened up and poured!  Needless to say, they started RUNNING and made it back to the office, only to be thoroughly soaked from head-to-toe, and a little beat up from the hail!  TC reported, “At first it was just sprinkling and then [it] just let loose!”  Fortunately, they both live very close to the office, and they were able to drive home and get a dry change of clothes!

Moral of the story: listen to the weather forecaster…and never rely on your California weather “instincts” no matter how long you have lived here!
