We went from sunny beach days to cold rainy days in a blink of an eye! Just when I put away the raincoats and rain boots, the rain comes. Good thing I didn’t get a car wash after our road trip.

Usually my son, Paulo and I would walk my daughter, Miranda to her classroom when we drop her off at school. If it’s drizzling a little, we’ll still walk her to class. (At pick up time, if it’s raining too hard that I can’t pick up my daughter at her classroom, she and I have agreed on a Plan B. It’s very important to have a contingency plan – for her safety – when our normal routine gets interrupted.)

This morning, although it wasn’t raining too hard, it was quite windy. So I parked the car, bundled up my daughter in her bright green slicker, and watched her walk from the gate all the way to her classroom with her little rainbow umbrella moving past the other kids. Paulo, nice and warm in his car seat, sadly looked out the wet window and murmured “Bye, Sister! ‘Rada go school.”

As we were leaving school, a girl waved goodbye to my son.

Mom: Who’s that?

Miranda is wearing “Botanical Garden” from the 2010 Fall / Winter Collection.

Have you ever built a leprechaun trap? This is our first attempt at creating one. It was an optional assignment for school and Miranda was excited to build one. We sat together and brainstormed some ideas. We knew that leprechaun liked shiny things, green things, shamrocks, and gold. We collected some items around the house and found:

Last week (Oct. 23rd – 31st, 2010) Red Ribbon Week was celebrated at many schools across the nation. Red Ribbon Week is a way for people and communities to come together and take a stand against substance abuse and saying “NO to Drugs!” This year, the national campaign asked students to “dress up” each day of the week to show their support and unity of being drug-free.

One of the dress up days was “Clash Day” where students were asked to wear items of clothing that do not go together. My daughter was very excited about this particular theme and couldn’t wait to pick out what she was going to wear. She opened her closet and pulled out every LeTop ensemble she had. This is what she came up with:

Blouse from the 2010 Dottie Scotties fall/winter collection; Skirt from the 2009 fall/winter Enchanted collection; and Tights from the 2010 Lavender's Blue fall/winter collection

She may be “clashing” but I still think she looks adorable!

We were at school one morning, and I wanted to get a picture of my daughter with her classmates. As I readied my camera, Miranda posed with one of her girlfriends. I noticed a boy standing a couple of feet from them so I asked him, “Why don’t you stand next to the girls so you can be in the picture, too?”

I can’t. I’m allergic to pink!”

Miranda proudly accepts her diploma in Le Top's Sweetheart Butterfly drop waist dress.

My daughter has passed another milestone… Kindergarten! The beginning of the 2009-2010 school year was a day to remember. I dropped off my baby in her classroom with other nervous little children who were sharing their first experience of school. Then the teacher shuffled out all the anxious parents and closed the door. It seemed like a long year full of homework, projects and field trips, but yet it also seemed like the first day of school was just yesterday. In a blink of an eye, I now have a first grader.

Has it really been a year since “Grajuration Day“?

This event was so much more different than graduating from preschool. First of all, these six-year olds are sassy and smart. They learned A LOT this year, not only in the classroom but also from their friends. There was so much attitude in the air, for many reasons:

  1. It’s summertime, which means no more homework. They can stay up as late as they want and sleep in. (HA!)
  2. Next year they are first graders which means they get to have two recesses, and they get to play on the big kids’ play structure.
  3. There are cupcakes after the graduation.

As happy as this day was for the kids, it was bittersweet for the parents. I am happy that she did so well in school and has made a lot of friends, but I am sad that she’s growing up so fast. All I can do is take a mental photograph of this day and cherish it. Tomorrow is another day, and I’m sure summer will be a drag because she’ll be bored not seeing her friends every day and wonder why Mommy and Daddy are still working, and shouldn’t we all be on summer vacation.

My husband gave our daughter his old alarm clock radio so that she can wake up early and start to get ready for school, while he got ready for work. She was very excited!

The first morning, he had to wake her up. Apparently, he set the wrong clock time. He had the AM and PM switched so the radio came on at 7:30 PM that night.

The next morning, he had to wake her up again. Apparently, he forgot to turn ON the alarm clock.

The following morning he had to wake her up AGAIN (for the third time)!

“Did your alarm clock work today?”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

The radio woke me up so I got up and turned it off. Then I went back to sleep.”

No, I did NOT say that!

My friend, Stephanie’s daughter came home from school and told her mother that some kids at school say that Santa is really your parents putting presents under the tree after you go to sleep. Her reply to her friends are,

I don’t think so because my Dad goes to bed early, AND Santa brings me stuff my mom would NEVER get me, like a Bratz doll that you can put make-up on.”
