I know Santa is Daddy, so Santa should stop playing video games upstairs and help me paint.”

No, I did NOT say that!

My friend, Stephanie’s daughter came home from school and told her mother that some kids at school say that Santa is really your parents putting presents under the tree after you go to sleep. Her reply to her friends are,

I don’t think so because my Dad goes to bed early, AND Santa brings me stuff my mom would NEVER get me, like a Bratz doll that you can put make-up on.”

Aaaaahhhh!!!!!

Aaaaahhhh!!!!!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Never having been taken to see Santa when I was a child (at least…not to my recollection anyway), this photo seems hilariously cute (or should it be ‘cutely hilarious’?)! And, having watched 24 hours of A Christmas Story over the holidays, I know (in the movies anyway) that kids seem to freeze (or worse) in the presence of Santa. But I wonder…who is more terrified? Santa or the kids?!? If you have similar photos to share (old or new), we’d love to see them and post them on le•top blog! Click here to upload your photos.

Santa welcomes travelers to Lihue

Santa welcomes travelers to Lihue

Sweetie decided that an intervention was in order…to give me a break from blogging (I think he’s a teeny tiny bit jealous…). So we’re in beautiful, warm Kauai, where I’m sneaking in this post (shshshshshsh!! be vewy, vewy quiet, and maybe sweetie won’t notice..!). I just had to share this photo of Santa greeting us when we arrived!

Miranda insisted on wearing her tiara because a girl can't ever have enough "bling."

She insisted on wearing her tiara because a girl can never have enough “bling.”

I was reading about Erin’s (and sweetie’s!) visit to Vermont and Yellow Turtle, and loved one of the dresses they had featured in their holiday window display: the le•top Light Blue Winter Wonderland Snowflake Dress. That dress is too adorable, and I commented how unfortunate it was that my daughter didn’t fit in le•top clothes anymore, especially since she’s above average in height for a 4-year-old. I really thought Miranda was too tall for the dress. Boy, was I wrong! And what a great way to find out! Because a few days after posting that comment… (more…)

Magical Snow at the Hyatt on the Embarcadero

Magical Snow at the Hyatt on the Embarcadero

Sweetie and I decided to have breakfast out this morning and took a wintery cold (by SF standards) and sunny walk over to the Hyatt. They have an immense lobby which they totally do up for the holidays. It’s pretty magical looking up the entire height of the building from inside and seeing what looks like snow falling, but snow that is made up entirely of lights. There were many, many(!) children there having breakfast, and they were all chattering away about their elevator rides (“open” elevators overlook the entire scene), about seeing Santa (who was quite jolly walking about the restaurant, trying to sit on parents’ laps, to the squealing delight and utter, wide-eyed amazement of their children!), and about ice-skating afterwards. All in all, it’s a major “Oooh-Aaah” place even for adults, but the wonder and joy in children’s faces and voices definitely add to the magic. More photos follow (taken by sweetie who really is a great sport about being my personal photographer). (more…)

stoneridge_20081112_000128Last week I took my daughter to see Santa Claus at the mall and get our annual photo. This is the first year she talked his ear off about how we had to go to different stores, and try on different dresses, and how she had to find the perfect dress to wear with her red, sparkly shoes. I never thought she had an obsession with fashion.

Every year, Santa asks the same ol’ question, “What would you like for Christmas?” This year my daughter animatedly and excitedly said, “CLOTHES!” And she was very specific, too. She wants play clothes: t-shirts, pants, socks, camisoles, etc. How many 4-year olds ask for clothes? (I swear, that Santa gave me the stink eye and looked at me as if I made my daughter say clothes.)

So tell us, what are your kids asking for this Christmas?
