mandm5Just for the fun of it, want to guess when my baby arrives? My due date is March 28, but I could be early, late, or I could deliver on the day I’m due. Tell me your guesses in the Comments section.

1. What day will I deliver?
2. What time will I deliver?
3. What will be the baby’s gender?

Bonus Question: Guess the baby’s weight.

Good luck!

binsThere’s definitely something wrong with me. I’m either obsessed or possessed! I’m 37 weeks pregnant and I can’t seem to stop organizing, cleaning, and putting things in order. This is like nesting to the 100th degree! It’s 2:37 AM, and I’ve done everything that I can do as far as organizing and reorganizing my daughter, Miranda’s old clothes and placing them in marked bins by size. Shouldn’t I be sleeping and resting instead?

I’m trying to get things in order before the baby arrives. And it seems like once I cross something off my To-do list, two more items have been added. I know that I’m anal retentive, but this nesting thing has made me even more obsessive. It’s quite maddening to witness. I feel like I’m watching myself go insane. (OK… that sounded insane!)

Last week, I caught up with my scrapbooks, ordered any digital albums that had been sitting on my desktop, and bought a new baby book for the little munchkin. I disinfected all the old baby toys that were in storage. I packed (and repacked) my hospital bag. I packed my daughter’s overnight bag. Every time I wash a load of baby clothes, I find something else to wash. Aaaaarrghhhh! It’s never ending. I need to stop! But I don’t…

Last weekend was dedicated to cleaning and organizing. I cleaned all three bathrooms (while doing four loads of laundry) because my husband was too slow to get to them. He was busy installing the baby car seat, washing both of our cars, dusting, and vacuuming. (You’d think he could manage to get to the bathrooms and the laundry done as well, huh?) And when he was done with all that, I yelled at him for not spending time with Miranda. So I made him take her to the park. (Oh, the mood swings!) Three more weeks… three more weeks…

knockedupMy cousin and I are both pregnant, and lately the two of us and her sister have been emailing about our favorite pregnancy movies. My all-time favorite is “Knocked Up.” I love the humor and its take on pregnancy from the male perspective. My pregnant cousin enjoyed the smart writing and comical aspect of “Baby Mama.” My other cousin (who started having babies years ago) was delighted with “Nine Months.”

What’s your favorite pregnancy movie?

Sara at 36 weeks

Sara at 36 weeks, healthy and happy!

We recently had a “Dear le•top” question about weight gain during pregnancy. One of our readers (and my good friend), Sara, wrote an insightful comment about her experience. Sara is now 36 weeks into her pregnancy with her first baby — a girl! (though no names have been discussed, I am rooting for my name! LOL!). Sara has not gained a lot of weight with her pregnancy despite her very healthy appetite, so she’s had to deal with a fair amount of other people’s anxieties and opinions about her weight gain (or lack thereof). I’ve read about how, once a woman becomes pregnant, she becomes everyone’s “friend”– as if there’s an invisible sign inviting everyone (even strangers) to talk about pregnancy stories, birthing and labor stories (especially the horrific ones), opinions, too-personal questions and belly pats! It seems to come with the territory of being pregnant.

Sara’s had a great pregnancy by all acounts, and even though her baby is playing games and doing cartwheels and flips, Sara’s taking it all in stride and just enjoying her pregnancy. I can’t wait to meet my namesake! 😉

Emma's nest (with a detail of wall stencil)

Emma's "nest" (with a detail of wall stencil). Emma's daddy did a great job painting the walls!

A few weeks ago, I wrote about my friend Erin T., who was in the nesting stages of her pregnancy. Well, she is done nesting and into motherhood  —  she delivered little Emma Grace last week! Erin’s nesting phase came in really handy because, as you can imagine, she’s been busy utilizing her “nested” nursery for multiple diaper changes, wardrobe changes and much, much more! We wanted to share some photos of the new room she and her husband created, so you could see what the finished product looks like. I love the pink and brown color scheme, and it is proving to be a big theme for girls recently, as a couple of other friends have chosen the same color combination for their upcoming girl’s room/nursery.

What color scheme did you pick out for your son’s or daughter’s nursery/room? We’d love to see the results of your nesting creations! Click here to upload your photos.

Who would be comfortable with a belly this size?!

Who would be comfortable with a belly this size?!

About two months ago I was complaining about my last trimester. Well, I should have been enjoying it back then instead of complaining about it, because the last MONTH of pregnancy is even worse!

This weekend I realized that I’m SO DONE with this pregnancy! All because I can’t find a comfortable position to sleep in. I’m supposed to lie on my left side for better circulation. But when I do, I wake up in the middle of the night with all my right fingers numb! I can’t even form a fist. (My doctor said that this is absolutely normal. It happens.) So I turn over and lie on my right side, only to wake up  an hour later with my right leg in pain. (My doctor said that this is absolutely normal, too. Cripes!) So, I roll over to my left side again and, once again, my fingers are numb. I do this so much throughout the night that I feel like a rotisserie chicken!

But the pregnancy blues don’t stop there. Every time I roll over, I have to get up and pee. Or if I do finally fall asleep, I get woken up by a massive leg cramp! To top it off, I’m swelling everywhere! I can’t wear my wedding ring, I can’t wear my watch, and my left foot is bigger than my right. (This better go away after pregnancy because there is no way I’m going to buy two pairs of shoes in different sizes.)

I’m counting the weeks left. I have five more but I’d be happy to deliver at 37 weeks. Oh, to be comfortable again.

jameeartIt’s amazing I’ve gone this long without ever having worked alongside a pregnant co-worker, until now. I met Jamee in the late 90s at an advertising agency. I didn’t really get to know her that well, but, for some reason, I just kind of considered her as the kid sister I never had. Our contact throughout the intervening years has been very sporadic, but when le•top started this blog, I immediately thought she’d be a great fit…little did I know she was just announcing her second pregnancy! WOW! What great timing; Jamee’s pregnant, and I’m getting her to write for a baby/kids/clothes blog! Tons of material (excuse the pun)! But now, as she’s getting ready to actually have the baby, it’s suddenly dawning on me that I’m going to “lose” her for a little while. Ack!! How will the blog go on without her? OK, never mind the blog, how will I go on without her? 😉 We’ve become closer through our mutual enthusiasm and ambition to create a great blog…community…for our readers. Jamee’s writing furiously now, so that we can schedule her posts to be published into the future while she’s on maternity leave, but wow, I’m sure going to miss that “kid sis” of mine. I value not only her creativity and myriad talents, but…you know how it is when you have a co-worker you not only like, but also highly respect…you turn to her for feedback, reality checks, constructive criticism and…venting! When your co-worker is a friend as well as a colleague, it’s doubly hard when they’re not around. How do people cope?!?

Don't mess with me, Buddy! Ooh... and hand over the cookies.

Don't mess with me, Buddy! Ooh... and hand over the cookies.

Yup, that’s me! I’m Sleepy, Grumpy, Dopey, Clumsy, Forgetful, Hungry, and Hormonal all in one. This last trimester is catching up with me! There’s so much I need to do during the day, yet, as I sit here typing out this blog entry, my eyelids are dangerously half closed…and it’s only 11:00 AM! If I’m not sleepy, I’m definitely grumpy. Probably because I want to sleep and crawl back into my warm bed and forget about all my responsibilities for the day. (more…)

My sisters-in-law (I have 4 of them!) are throwing me a baby shower at the end of the month. And because of the holiday season, I haven’t had a chance to register for baby gifts. So on January 2, one of my sisters-in-law, Christine, urged me to register because she will be mailing the shower invitations soon, and she wants to make sure all invitation information is correct. (I love this about her! She’s just like me… a perfectionist!) So on January 3, when I miraculously found time between family functions (and Christine was skiing the day away!), I made it to the baby stores and got registered!

With my first pregnancy, my husband and I registered for an exorbitant amount of baby gear. The experience was overwhelming! We didn’t know what we would need, what we should have, what the best products are. (more…)
