Please tell me everyone has “guilty pleasures,” right?  A few weeks ago I was lying in bed watching Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.  Yup, I admit it; I do watch Tori & Dean!  The celebrity parents were headed up to Vancouver, BC because Tori was guest starring in an episode of Smallville (filmed in gorgeous British Columbia.) On their much documented plane ride with their children (Stella’s first!) she was dressed in our very comfy and appropriate for traveling rabbitmoon orchid tracksuit!  I jumped out of bed and started screaming “THAT’S OUR TRACKSUIT, THAT’S OUR TRACKSUIT!”  My husband thought I had gone berserk as he ran in the room and asked what on earth I was screaming about!  I, with some exasperation regarding his lack of knowledge regarding all things “celebrity” told him why I was so excited.  He started jumping up and down with me…just kidding, he didn’t really do that, but he was excited for us!  I contemplated calling Chris, but then thought better of it as it was 10:30 ++ at night!  Here is a great clip from Tori and Dean’s plane ride…just fast forward to 2:59 minutes to see the outfit… CLICK HERE

I have never been one to stop at one of anything… so I then searched the Oxygen network website and found Stella wearing one of our darling swimsuits from the le•top Tropical Paradise collection!  Check out this cutie.

A few days ago we announced  the arrival of Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou’s first child together – a baby boy, but at the time, few other details were revealed.

Kimora has since been updating the world via twitter about her new baby boy. She and Djimon named him Kenzo Lee Hounsou. At birth he weighed in at 8 lbs. and was 20 inches long.

According to a report by The New York Daily News when selecting their new baby boy’s name, Kimora and Djimon may have been inspired by Japanese fashion mogul Kenzo Takada.

Baby Kenzo was born on May 31. We can’t wait until the couple shares photos!

Do you guys like this name?

As of this moment, I know 10 women who are pregnant – all due at different times of the year. These are people I actually know, not just celebrities and their pregnancies. I remember a couple of years ago, I knew 14 women who were expecting! That’s a lot of babies. And a whole lot of baby showers! And then the birthday parties! (And we don’t need to mention all those diaper changes, clothing changes and laundry, right?) 😉

So it got me thinking, could it be something in the water? Or is it a cyclical pattern that women get pregnant every so often? Or is it, perhaps, that I’m just at a phase in my life when almost everyone in my age group is moving on to the next phase of life? Whatever it is, it’s quite amazing that I know so many women who will be giving birth and holding a new bundle of joy within the year.

Congratulations to all my family and friends!

Just for fun, here’s my list:

  1. Kisha – Due June 2009
  2. Anya – Due June 2009
  3. Jessica – Due August 2009
  4. Minnie – Due August 2009
  5. Abbie – Due August 2009
  6. Ana – Due September 2009
  7. Kimmy – Due October 2009
  8. Lisa – Due October 2009
  9. Christine – Due October 2009
  10. Grace – Due January 2010

Giselle

Giselle P. born May 17th, 2009 is wrapped in our Le Top baby pink blanket and dreaming about her Great Uncle's wonderful cooking...

Ok, so here is the scoop on the newest addition to Le top’s extended family! Daryle, our Warehouse Manager, and Judy, our Tagging Manager are siblings, and their niece Alicia (with her husband, Willy) became proud new parents to their first child, Giselle. The funny story that goes along with Giselle’s birth is that Alicia had gone over to Daryle’s house for a BBQ (he’s a great cook) the day Alicia went into labor. Two hours after she left his house, Giselle was born. They attribute her being so quick to come out into the world to Daryle’s cooking and because of her wanting to get some of that great cooking for herself! 🙂 Happy Birthday, Giselle!

boomletHow did you finally decide when you named your baby? Was it a family name? Did you wait to see what s/he looked like? According to experts in this article, new parents are torn between wanting something popular (so their kids will fit in), and yet wanting something unique and memorable. Of course, they’re expecting to see a rise in popularity for the names Michelle, Sasha and Malia for girl names, and Barack has already taken a meteoric rise from 10,126th place to 2,409th place! Jacob is maintaining the top boy name position with Michael coming in second. Emily has been the most popular girl name for 12 years running, until Emma took over that position in 2008 according the latest report from the Social Security Administration. The agency has been tracking popularity of baby names since 1997, but they offer name lists dating back to 1880!

It’s hard to say "no" to this face!

It’s hard to say "no" to this face!

I have a 28 month old. I don’t want to call it the terrible twos  because she’s just being independent…right? I love that she has a will of  her own, but boy, is it ever a challenge to get through everything these days! In the morning, it’s a struggle to pick clothes that are  acceptable to both of us. Throughout the day, it’s a (not fun) game trying to get her to pick up her toys.

The other night, I asked her to pick up all her magnetic letters and either put them on the fridge or in the old coffee can. She refused. I then asked her to help me do it. She just sat there and watched me. OK, I know I can’t do it for her because that is just setting myself up for the next 15-20 years of continuing to “do” for her. I decided this was a battle I was going to win and was prepared to do whatever it took to make it happen. Now I had to get tough and tell, not ask, her to do it. She still refused. I wrapped my hand around hers and helped her to pick up each letter and then released her hand making her drop it, but all that did was entertain her. She just thought it was funny. Finally I told her if she didn’t cooperate she had to go to bed. She still refused so I hauled her to the bedroom. She cried and said, “No, no”. When I asked if she would pick up her letters she said she would. I brought her back to the kitchen. When I sat her down she again refused. After going back and forth a couple of times with longer periods of time in the bedroom she finally gave in and picked everything up.

I know this process was significantly more painful for me than for her, but at least I won this round. She’s been a bit better about it this week. Next week, I’m sure there will be a whole new battle. I’d love to find out if anyone has a fun ways to teach kids to pick up after themselves.

Mama Sandy being a clever and sneaky nail trimmer with a napping Henry Mantu

Mama Sandy being a clever and sneaky nail trimmer with a napping Henry Mantu

Seeing this photo reminded me of the first time I visited one of my closest friends, Dawn, after she had her first child, a daughter. We’ve been friends since we were barely teenagers, so to see her as a newly minted mom was a very different experience. I think they’d only had their daughter home for about 6 week when I visited. While her husband was with the baby, Dawn and I were taking a little break, trying to catch up a bit on our own (like old times!). Well, not much time had passed, when we heard a blood-curdling cry. Of course we both rushed over and found her husband looking sheepish, anguished and horrified by what he’d done. While trimming the baby’s fingernails, he had nicked a tiny bit of skin. Oooh, agh…we know how much the tiniest paper cut hurts…I couldn’t imagine the pain this little baby was feeling on tender baby skin! I’m sure her parents were thinking the same thing. Even though we all knew it’d heal, and that she’d stop crying eventually, logic wasn’t really going to help that day, not with the amount of guilt and remorse in that room!
