The time finally arrived! My three-year old son has learned how to share. This is a picture of him sharing cars with a friend in his Mommy & Me class. I remember last year when he and two other boys would eye the same car/truck/train, look at each other, then dive for the toy as they each tried to yank it from each others’ grasps. Oh, boy! That was a nightmare because all the mommies had to deal with the crying, the fighting and giving our sons “The Talk” about sharing. It’s a good thing we mothers are all on the same page regarding this, and know that we need to teach our children how to play together.

A year later, I stand in the classroom with pride (and with my camera) as I listen to my son say, “Do you want this car?” and proceed to play nicely with his friend. He’s growing up!

I looked out the window this morning, and to my dismay, it is STILL rainy and it looks disgusting outside. It can be tough to entertain kids on rainy days – barbies and legos can only entertain for so long! Have fun with your kiddo and turn a gloomy day into one of the prettiest days by painting their umbrella with a fanciful pattern. It only takes a few supplies and a child-size umbrealla. So by the time it dries….they can be “dancing in the rain” with their new fancy umbrella!

Need:

  • You will need a kid’s nylon umbrella (paint won’t stick to a plastic one)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Permanent waterproof paint, such as fabric paint or acrylic

How To:

Note: Follow the manufacturer’s directions: Some fabric paints require the addition of fixative; others require ironing the umbrella after painting.

1.    Carefully cover the work surface with newspaper before you begin, and have your child wear a smock.

2.    Once finished, keep the umbrella open overnight.

3.    The paint must dry completely before you close it or use it.

4.    Tah-Dah!

Another fun idea is singing the song “Rain, Rain, Go Away” with your kids! Here are the lyrics:

Rain, rain, go away

Come again some other day

We want to go outside and play

Come again some other day!

Optional Lyrics – change the third line to say:

[child’s name] and [sibling or friend’s name]

want to play

Today’s beautiful Darling is Melica (14-months-old). She adores her grandpa Ali (as he does her) and can’t get enough of him – this may have something to do with being the first grandchild on his side of the family.

Melica is a very happy baby who manages to keep herself busy (as a bee) all the time, she is inquisitive about everything and loves ANIMALS. She speaks 3 languages (farsi -mother tongue-, hindi and english). Melica is modeling the latest Rabbitmoon fashion in her “Harmony” Collection drop waist tunic and ruffle skirt with the matching footless tights. Simply gorgeous!

She is her mom and dad’s pride and joy. With good reason! Congratulations to Melica on being our Le Top Darling of the Day!

Paulo is wearing "Hop To It!" from Le Top's 2011 Spring/Summer Collection.

The sun came out in Northern California and it got HOT! I guess TC and I had the same idea. It’s time to cool down those kids and let them have fun with water. Paulo packed his backpack with his swim trunks and a towel and headed over to his friend’s house for their weekly playdate. Splish, splash! Let’s go have some fun.

Sadly, the weekend came and it was cold and windy once again. Make up your mind, Sunshine! You’re either in or you’re out.

Miranda is wearing a bathing suit from Le Top's 2011 Spring/Summer "School of Fun" collection.

This is a FIRST for Miranda—and for ME! After spending a lot of hours AND a lot of money on swim lessons, I figured we should put the swim lessons to the test. So I signed her up to be on the local swim team. I thought if you signed up, then you were automatically in. Well… I was wrong. They required a tryout to see if the child can swim across one lap. The pool where Miranda had lessons was half the length. And as far as I knew, the times we swam at friends’ pools or hotel pools, she could swim across, but I didn’t know if they were the same distance as one lap. Plus, it has been almost a year since Miranda had a swim lesson. Yikes! Talk about NERVE-WRACKING!

The reason for swim tryouts wasn’t to see how fast a child can swim or what strokes he/she can do in the water. The tryout was mainly for safety reasons. Children must be able to swim across the pool by themselves without help. So before Miranda’s turn in the water, I asked her how she felt. She was a little nervous but wasn’t afraid. She didn’t feel intimidated at all. “Are you sure? Was the pool in Hawaii this long? What stroke are you going to do? If you get tired half-way, stop and rest. Don’t feel bad.” Then she just looked at me with exasperation as if she just wanted to say, “Cool it, Mom!”

The coach called her name and, naturally, I was more nervous than her. She got in the water, kicked her skinny, long legs all the way across to the other end of the pool doing the freestyle. Then the guide in the water asked her if she wanted to hang on to the life preserver so she can get a “ride” back. She declined and said, “I’ll do the backstroke.” And she did, with perfect arms!

What a proud moment for me! She made the swim team and was so happy to back in the water after such a long, cold winter. Can’t wait for swim practices and swim meets. An exciting and fun summer awaits.

Usually when it’s snack time, I will place Paulo’s food and his glass of milk in front of him while I busied myself with some other household chore (like the dishes or putting away toys). He usually babbles and makes animal noises while he’s eating or maybe he’ll say dog or bird (if he happens to be looking out the window while he’s eating). Today he was doing something new. I couldn’t understand what he was saying, so I turned around to see what he was doing. He had lined up his goldfish crackers and was mumbling some words, “Muh, Eh, Nah, Bu…” Wow! He’s counting. He wasn’t saying the words clearly, but it was obvious that he was counting.

Miranda is wearing Dottie Scotties from Le Top's 2010 Fall/Winter Collection.

Miranda finally has her first loose tooth! Ever since she learned about the Tooth Fairy, she has been bugging me about when her first loose tooth was going to happen. Of course, it doesn’t help that all her classmates in First Grade have already lost teeth in class. Whoever loses a tooth gets to put a sticker on the tooth chart, a trip to the nurse’s office, and a very cool tooth holder necklace to place the fallen prize. So it’s quite obvious on the tooth chart, that my poor little girl still has all her baby teeth.

So now she has a “looth tooth,” and all she does is wiggle it. Morning, noon and night… wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. I can’t wait for that little tooth to fall out already so I can see her whole face without her hand or finger in the way.

Anyone know the going rates on baby teeth these days?
