1.    Tell us the inspiration behind the name Zoop a Loop? How long has your store been around?
We’ve been a children’s store in Lodi, California for 20 years now. Unfortunately, I don’t know the story behind Zoop a Loop because it was founded many owners ago, but I absolutely love the name. It evokes animals, fun, a little craziness and whimsy and is the perfect name for a children’s boutique!

2.    Spring 2012 styles are coming into stores and brightening up any family’s winter wardrobe. What are your top 3 items (clothes, toys, giftables, etc.) for any parent shopping for warm weather items for a nice holiday vacation this winter?
Melissa & Doug have the most fabulous outdoor toys…butterfly nets, bug catchers, indoor/outdoor hopscotch games, and now they’ve added some great pool toys. Roxy and Quiksilver have the best hats every spring for boys and girls, and we love Le Top…the outfits are so fun, colorful and whimsical-perfect for spring!

3.    Any special events that you have planned at your store for spring? Tell us the inside scoop about any special events and especially the fun deals we can expect!
We often partner with nearby merchants for “tent sales” in the alley, we’ll have the Easter Bunny next month for several visits, and we always have great deals for the annual Lodi Street Faire in May!

4.    What is your “go-to” baby shower gift in your store for boys and girls?
My favorites are the handmade “Memory Books” that document all the milestones in the first five years. These beautiful albums are handmade by a local woman and the most unique that I have come across.

5.    What are your top 3 favorite baby or children books and why?
The very Hungry Caterpillar for the beautiful, colorful illustrations, Good Night Moon, because it was one of my daughter’s favorites and The Little House on the Prairie series because my mother read them to me as a child, and then I read them to my daughter…such good memories!

6.    Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?”  Say?  “Because I said so”!
I thought it would be so much better to just explain things to my daughter, but I quickly found out you can’t reason with a toddler and they can outlast you!

7.    Describe the neighborhood of your store location in Lodi, California? Did you grow up in the local area?
The store is located in the Historic Downtown area of Lodi, with several blocks of boutiques, restaurants and antique shops. It’s a great place to stroll in the afternoon. I didn’t grow up here, but my sister moved here 20 years ago, and I followed her 7 years ago. I love the small town feel, and it really does fell like everyone knows everyone else.

8.    What are the hottest trends for kid’s clothes right now?
Skinny jeans and jeggings, but I am seeing a big turn back to skirts with leggings, especially for the older girls. Bright, fun colors and patterns with and anything with embellishments-lace, glitter, jewels, etc.

9.    Where are the best/essential family hangouts and places to go around your store location?
We have a movie theater down the street in one direction, a pottery arts painting place on the other side, and a Children’s Science Museum 2 blocks away, so families can spend a whole day downtown!

10.   What Le Top or Rabbitmoon Spring 2012 collection is your store’s favorite and why?
We love the Sun & Sea Collection with the bright colors, fish cut-out on the the back of the Capri set and tulle embellishments on the dress and bikini…so cute!

1.    Tell us the inspiration behind the name Polka Dots & Patticakes? How long has your store been around?
Every time that I think of children, I think of Polka Dots. I knew that I wanted to do something with this name. I told my husband that I needed to come up with something to go along with Polka Dots & he said what about Patticakes? Perfect!Patty Cake is a childhood game that we all remember from our childhood. My special spelling is just to make the name unique. I started my business in October 2010.

I plan on having a Grandmother’s night at the store when more of my spring product comes in. I will have tea and cookies and show my collections to them and give them the opportunity to purchase outfits for their little ones with a discount. I also plan on having a few specials throughout the spring season online and in store.

7.    Describe the neighborhood of your store location in Conover, North Carolina? Did you grow up in the local area?

8.    What are the hottest trends for kids clothes right now?
With warmer weather on its way, tunics and capris for girls will be popular in the spring and fun skirts with tops for summer.  One-pieces are always great for infant and toddler boys during the summer.

9.    Where are the best/essential family hangouts and places to go around your store location?
If you are looking for a fun family day outing, you could visit the Catawba Science CenterThey have tons of activities and fun things for the kids to do. For soft play, go-carts, putt putt, lazer tag, and arcade games you could take the kids to Hickory Dickory Dock. It is also great for birthday parties too.

10.    What Le Top or Rabbitmoon Spring 2012 collection is your store’s favorite and why?
My favorite collection from Le Top is “Sun and Sea”.  When it starts to warm up, I want to be at the beach and this collection would look so cute on my tan little girl after a fun day at the beach.  All the bright colors are so beautiful.  Makes me look forward to those long summer days filled with sunshine and sand.

1.    Tell us the inspiration behind opening your own boutique?
Melissa:
I started working in the children’s industry at Gap Kids when I started college. It was a very hard, exhausting, and rewarding job. After the long hours. I swore I would never work retail again. But I went on to work at private boutiques and fell in  love …22 years later here I am, and still loving it.

Le Top Fall 2011 "Zoo Kazoo" collection

2.    How did you come up with the name?
Melissa:
Decisions can be my worst enemy. I had at least 40 names to choose from and my husband finally told me I had until the end of  the day. I wanted something sweet that was about both boys and girls. That’s why we are called Belli and not Bella.

3.    Fall is in the air and Charlotte Magazine mentions you are a store for posh tots! You definitely are on the local style radar – what are 3 staples you can tell parents to buy from your store for when transitioning their kids’ wardrobe from summer threads to warm clothes for the fall?
Melissa:
Everyone must have a pair of TOMS, plus every shoes you buy, TOMS donates a pair to someone in need of shoes! Jeggings! Denim and colors…a great way to pair with an assortment of tops. Le Top red and white styles…perfect for Christmas and Valentines Day!

4.    Tell us the inside scoop about any special events that you have planned for your boutique for fall, especially the fun deals we can expect! Anything for Halloween next month?
Melissa:
Halloween we will dress up and if you dress up we will give you 15% off any regular price item.

5.   Please tell us 1 fun Halloween tradition you had with your family as a child that you can share with our readers?
Melissa:
As a child I loved to dress up, but I didn’t like to ask for candy, because I didn’t feel it was appropriate. But I loved and still love to hand out candy and tell all the trick-or-treaters how adorable they are. Funny thing is my middle child has always been the same way.

6.    What is one fun way to decorate a pumpkin or your home for Halloween?
Melissa:
We, or shall I say my husband, traces and cuts our pumpkins. He is very precise. 🙂

7.    Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?”
Melissa:
I swore I would never make my kids wear something they didn’t like, especially dresses! I hated to wear dresses and every Sunday my parents made me wear one to church. I wanted pants like my brother…guess what I lied! I must approve the attire.

8.    Tell us about a “special” moment that has made your day working at your store.
Melissa:
It’s too hard to pick just one “aha” moment, but I must say its such a pleasure when a couple goes to the doctor to be told they are expecting a little miracle. Their first stop being Belli Bambini, either as a way of celebrating, or as a gift they give to their parents to tell them they are going to be grandparents. While I feel all children are so special, another “aha” moment is to see the smile of a mother-to-be who is awaiting for the birth mother(adoption) to give birth to their baby. What a blessing!

9.    Describe the neighborhood of your store location in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Did you grow up in the local area?
Melissa:
I was raised in San Antonio, Texas. My husband serves in the military which is what brought us to Southern Pines. Southern Pines is a beautiful little town. The train house and railroad tracks divide the shopping street into two sides. The best way to describe it is its “like living in Mayberry.” Plenty of unique boutiques, tasty restaurants, parks where you will see families walking their dogs, strolling their babies and eating an ice cream cones.

10.    Where are the best/essential family hangouts and places to go around your store location?
Melissa:
Grab a bench, sit and enjoy the view. If you need more, we do have 27 golf courses and we are in horse country.

11.    What Le Top or rabbitmoon Fall 2011 collection is your store’s favorite and why?
Melissa:
I love the Le Top “Zoo Kazoo” Collection  and for girls its the “Cute Cookie” Collection!

We were lucky enough to interview one of the CUTEST boutiques in Charlotte, North Carolina this week for our Premier Store Spotlight – The Milky Way! 1.    What was your inspiration/ behind opening your children’s clothing store – The Milky Way?
Wooten: The original idea behind the store was to have everything for new and nursing mothers. We started out with a lot of very practical products for mothers and a few very adorable things for kids. But the cute kid piece of the business very quickly became our favorite.

Le Top "Beechy Keen" Seahorse Monokini

2.    Tell us about any special events that you have planned at your store this summer and fun deals we can expect.
Wooten: We always have a couple of great summer sales in which customers can get great deals on “fun in the sun” items. We offer adorable swimsuits from Le Top, re-usable swim diapers with cute prints, wide-brimmed sunhats and the safest and most eco-friendly sunscreens from California Baby.

3.    Describe the neighborhood of your store in Charlotte, North Carolina where your store is located. Did you grow up in the local area?
Wooten: We are located in the Dilworth area of Charlotte, which is a really interesting mixture of affluence and funkiness. It boasts lots of clothing and gift boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. I did not grow up in Charlotte, but it has long been considered the Carolina’s shopping mecca. We used to travel regularly to Charlotte from my small hometown in eastern North Carolina in order to shop, get our hair cut, and then eat at great restaurants. That was many years ago, but Charlotte hasn’t changed a bit in that respect.

4.    Summer break from school for kids is just around the corner. What are 3 vacation clothing must-have items that are in your store for summer?
Wooten: Our swim and skincare products, of course. We still have some beautiful sundress for girls, including this year’s best seller – Le Top’s Poppies collection.

5.   Where are your favorite family hangouts in the Charlotte, NC area?

Wooten: We love Discovery Place located uptown and have always enjoyed our visits to the Charlotte Nature Museum right here in Dilworth. And, of course, many summer hours are spent at our neighborhood swim club.

6.    Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?” Please share!
Wooten: There are so many things I thought I’d never do that I ended up doing.  It’s really kind of embarrassing to think about how little I knew. But if I had to choose one, it would be “buying” my children’s good behavior with the promise of ice cream — or some other delicious treat – later.

Le Top "Poppies" Stripe Umbrella Top & Print Capri Pants

7.    Tell us about a “special” moment that made your day working at your store.
Wooten: Honestly, the best moments for me are the ones in which I feel I’ve really helped make a struggling new mom’s life a little easier. Recently, I helped a young woman with a bra. She and her mother were both there. They’d been over the Charlotte metro area looking for a properly fitting nursing bra and were an the point on giving up until they got to The Milky Way. We fitted this new mom with three comfortable new bras and also reassured her that she was not alone in her difficulties. I got a hug and the most heartfelt thanks from both mother and grandmother as they departed, and it really did make my day!

8.    What do you think are the 3 perfect ingredients if there was a “recipe” for dressing a stylish child? Always having solid basics? The perfect tutu? Great jeans that are durable for the everyday play for boys? Tell us your ‘secret recipe’ on style.
Wooten: A stylish child is a happy child, so I’m big on comfort. I think some nice solids look great. Happy colors are a must for me. And I really believe that all children’s clothes should be from natural fibers. 100% cotton just can’t be beat from comfort, style and durability.

9.    What collection or piece from the Le Top or Le Top Baby line or Rabbitmoon do you love from the Spring/Summer 2011?
Wooten: I love the Le Top “Poppies” Collection! It’s so bold yet so feminine, and I think it really looks lovely on all skin types.

Rabbitmoon "reflection" collection

1.    What was the inspiration behind the name Toot Sweet? It reminds us of an old candy store with delectable treats!
Courtney: The idea actually came from the movie “Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang.” My mom and I had been brainstorming names for the store and one morning she called me said, “I’ve got it! Toot Sweet!” I had no idea what she was talking about, but she had a dream about that part in the movie the night before and knew it had to be the name of our store. Toot Sweet is actually a French expression (toute de suite) used to tell someone to do something quickly, with haste. Of course, that fits perfectly with our motto: …you can’t dress them forever.

2.    Describe the neighborhood where your store is located. Tell us about Fort Walton Beach, Florida. What made you pick this location and what was your inspiration to start a children’s clothing store?
Courtney:
Toot Sweet is located in the quaint downtown area of Fort Walton Beach. We are surrounded by trendy bistros, bakeries, retailers, and even a pottery studio. We are right across the street from the Landing, which is a beautiful park on the Santa Rosa Sound. We have a lot of history rooted in downtown Fort Walton Beach as well.

Rabbitmoon "terrapin" collection

The twins were born on January 1, 2009 and it was really frustrating to not be able to find unique, comfortable, high quality kids clothing at reasonable prices. We also had a really hard time finding coordinating clothes for boys and girls. Mom and I began searching everywhere for brands that we loved. We looked for lines that were affordable, but trendy and fun for hip moms – and not to mention sweet enough for Yayas and Nanas to fall in love with too. So…Toot Sweet was born!

3.    Spring Break (February break) vacation is here. What are 3 vacation clothing must-have that are in your store for spring?
Courtney: The weather is warming up and you know what that means: SWIMMING! For girls we love Le Top swimsuits and cover-ups, Ruffle Butts, and embellished flip-flops. For boys: Le Top swim trunks and hats to shade cute little cheeks from the sun!

Le Top girl's beachwear

4.    Where are your favorite family hangouts in the local Fort Walton Beach, Florida area?
Courtney:
I have 2 year old twins, so we are always looking for fun activities for the whole crew. A block or so from the store we have the historical Indian Temple Mound and Museum and The Focus Center (a children’s hands on science museum). And of course, the white, sugary soft beaches are our absolute favorite place to hang out and relax.

5.    Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?” Please share!
Courtney: Oh my…I swore I would never let my kids holler or fuss in a restaurant. They are both really good kids, so it hasn’t happened very often, but there’s been a time or two when we were “those people.”

6.    Tell us about a “special” moment that made your day working at your store.
Courtney: We feel like everyday is special at Toot Sweet. It’s so special when you have a first time grandma walk through the door because she just found out her daughter’s having a girl. Or when the dad-to-be pops in to see if we have a polo for their alma mater. Of course, since everyone that works here is a mom – we can really relate to the moms and moms-to-be…I feel like I learn tons of great tips from our customers…everything from potty training to where to get the best birthday cakes!

7.    If you could pick a fabulous sunny day activity (since your store is located in a great climate) – what would it be for a family with kids?
Courtney: The beaches of Northwest Florida are the most incredibly beautiful beaches there are (we’re not biased at all)! Our favorite day at the beach would have us building sandcastles, burying our feet and swimming in the waves!

8.
Tell us about any special events that you have planned at your store and fun deals we can expect.
Courtney: We are on the brink of launching our webstore! It is very exciting for us, because we will now be able to offer our customers our styles and fashions from across the country. We wanted to build a site that reflected our fun, relaxed style – and we think it’s finally here. We can’t wait for our customers to be able to shop at Toot Sweet anytime.

9.    Tell us your best parenting tip or mom advice that your mom passed on to you that you would like to share with a new parent.
Courtney: My mom always reminds me that all kids (even my twins) are different – and things won’t always work the same way. Oh – and don’t sweat the small stuff.

10.    What collection or piece from Le Top or Le Top Baby line or Rabbitmoon do you love from the Spring 2011?
Courtney: Of course we love it all-, but I think our favorites from Spring 2011 would have to be: Heart’s Delight Collection and Ship Ahoy! Collection from Le Top and the Reflection and Terrapin collections from Rabbitmoon.  They’re all so fresh and fun, it’s hard to pick just one. And besides…you can’t dress them forever.

Le Top "Ship Ahoy!" gingham a-line dress, "Heart's Delight" swimsuit and sunhat, and "Ship Ahoy!" hooded jacket and swim trunks.

We at Le Top always get excited about another premier retailer joining our family of fabulous stores that carry our clothing. We had the privilege of interviewing store owner, Lisa Newberry, about her cool style and being a young mom with one of the hippest boutiques in Southern California. Read more about her store, her inspiration, and parenting advice.

1.    What was the inspiration behind the name Papillon?
Lisa: Papillon, means butterfly in French. This is very significant to me because when my Grandmother Lois passed away, whenever we’d see a white butterfly, we’d know that Grandmomie was there with us. When I first decided to open Papillon, I remember seeing a white butterfly floating around me for several days leading up to my signing on the dotted line. Since then, 4 years later, I still see the white butterfly and still feel her support, just as she supported me throughout my childhood.

Papillon is a wondrous insect that symbolizes new life.  They’re vibrant, brilliantly colored, carefree and very unique. This is how I would describe a child. This is how I would describe Papillon…a unique children’s boutique!

2.    Describe the neighborhood where your store is located. Did you grow up in the local area? Is it the same as it was growing up?
Lisa: Papillon is located in Marina del Rey, CA. Marina del Rey is an upscale beach city that borders on the areas of Venice, Santa Monica, Playa del Rey and Playa Vista. I grew up in Santa Clarita, California but since graduating from UCLA (a few years ago), I’ve moved around a bit, but always managed to make my way back to the Marina. It’s a beautiful community to raise a family, go for a walk, ride a bike, eat out and of course, shop.

3.    Spring break is coming up in the next few months – with Southern California always being on the warmer/sunnier side, what are 3 vacation essentials a parent should buy for their child’s wardrobe? For a boy or girl…
Lisa: Three vacation essentials a parent should buy for their child are:

  • a floppy hat
  • white linen or organic cotton pants or dress (with a light sweater for layering)
  • and flip flops or a neutral color tennis shoe.

Oh, and of course 2 -3 swimsuits. I’ve found that when we vacation, the most important thing on Sasha’s agenda is to be in the water; whether it’s a pool or the ocean. She could careless about what she wears any other time. As much as we want our kids to look fashionable at all times, it matters more that they are comfortable, fuss free, and can spill an ice cream sundae on whatever they’re wearing without us moms stressing out about it. Did I mention I’m a stress case/Virgo sometimes when it comes to being a mom? 🙂

4.     Let’s talk Southern California…where are your favorite family hangouts?
Lisa: My family and I live in Marina del Rey, so we have the luxury of biking down to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier on a whim.  What we love most though, is to do family dinners and BBQ’s at the house with all of our cousins, parents, everybody! If we do go out, we love 26 Beach (huge burgers that Sasha LOVES), Cheesecake Factory (great outdoor seating on the Marina where kids can play in the sand & on the jungle gym), or the local bowling alley, where we all, as a family, can enjoy hours of silly fun. Of course that doesn’t mean I win, but we still have a blast!

Owner of Papillon, Lisa Newberry

5.    Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?” Please share!
Lisa: Before I became mommy to Sasha, almost 9 years ago, I swore I’d never make her wear something she didn’t want to wear.  When I was growing up, I hated wearing dresses. But I didn’t have a choice. Of course now, I love dressing up in fancy, hip, unique clothes, including a tutu that Sasha & I both love to rock sometimes when we go out. Sasha doesn’t particularly like to wear dresses, or pink, but if she can add her own little style & flair, then all is good.

6.    Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Cupids and all, would you dress your little girl or boy in for Valentine’s Day?
Lisa: I love all holidays…Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, birthdays, and the tooth fairy. Valentines Day is just another excuse to do something fun with my daughter (and of course my significant other). I’d dress Sasha in a red or pink tutu (well, since she hates pink, let’s go with red), leggings, converse and a rocker tee shirt. She’s a tomboy, I’m a musician, so this would be a nice compromise for both of us.

7.    With all of the celebrity pregnancies going on from Natalie Portman to Kate Hudson to Nicole Kidman’s surprise baby….which celebrity mommy would you want to meet and why?
Lisa: What’s funny is, just last weekend, I met a mommy-to-be that I’d been wanting to meet for a while – Denise Boutte. She plays Dr. Sasha Brown on “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.” I always enjoy Denise’s acting and she has a style that is fierce that I’m sure she’ll carry on to her daughter, who is due to arrive in April. My daughter’s name is Sasha Brown. Denise said to us, “The real Sasha Brown.” What fun it was for Sasha and I to meet her. She was so pleasant and appreciates things that are unique and fabulous. I’m sure she’ll be a regular at Papillon and she’s going to love Le Top!

8.    Any special events or fun New Year traditions that you have planned at your store for the next few months?
Lisa: Every month at Papillon, we offer special events, such as book readings & signings, jewelry making parties, trunk shows, holiday bazaars, mom’s night out events, Monday Madness days and more.  Shopping at Papillon is always a fun and unique experience!

9.    Tell us your best parenting tip you know or would want to give to a new parent.
Lisa: As a parent of an 8 year old, I still feel like I’m learning…from my parents, my friends and my twin brother and sister-in -law who are parents of 5 children – 4 under the age of 12. BUT, I will say I have learned that parents should be patient with their children and realize that no matter how young they are, they are still individuals and have their own little mind about certain things like what they want to eat, decorating their room, how to fix their hair and of course, what to wear. As a storeowner, and a fashionista since I was a young girl, it can be a challenge at times, but realizing that Sasha has her own style and flair has made me appreciate fashion even more. It just makes things more fun having Papillon, and makes it more challenging for me to find unique lines (like Le Top) that she actually enjoys wearing.

10.    What collection or piece from Le Top or Le Top Baby line or Rabbitmoon do you love from the Spring 2011 or Fall 2010 collection?
Lisa: Le Top Baby is a new line for Papillon.  When I first saw it in the showroom and online I just had to have it. It’s fabulous! We’re looking forward to launching it this Spring!

It wouldn’t be the holidays in San Antonio, Texas without the beautiful and festive window displays at premier children’s boutique, Baby O Baby. We interviewed children’s boutique owner and kiddo style guru, Becki Guillory, about the history of her store and how twins and triplets were her inspiration and other fun facts!

1. What was the inspiration behind the name Baby O Baby?
Becki: The inspiration came once the conception of our store began. It is certainly a term of endearment. I have a very close friend who began having children several years before me. Now remember, this was before high-tech ultra sounds, AVI, and before a father was even allowed in the delivery room. The first time my friend gave birth, we were all eagerly waiting at the hospital and surrounded by many friends and family. After a long wait, the doctor came out and said, “Congratulations!! Your wife is fine, and your daughter is beautiful!” Before Toni (the husband) could say a word, the doctor continued on to say,” and your son is a handsome boy.” That was a shock! My friend’s second pregnancy, was the same routine…after what seemed to be an eternity of waiting, he (the doctor) came out and said, “Well folks [looking at Toni], you have not one baby…[lingering in suspense and joking], Baby Oh Baby…” He then finished with, “Oh babies. She had triplets!” From that point on, the triplets were nicked named “baby ‘o babies…Oh baby!!!!” Now as my friend’s family grew, she had two sets of twins and two sets of triplets – their very own football team…And a beautiful children’s boutique called Baby O Baby.

2.     Describe the neighborhood where your store is located. Did you grow up in the local area? Is it the same as it was growing up?
Becki: No, I did not grow up here, but I moved here twenty-one years ago. This [Baby O Baby’s location] is the side of San Antonio that we choose. It still had that “in the country feel.” My children remember walking through the woods to and from school. We knew it was going to be a wonderful place to call “home.” I would describe the Stone Oak area to be the side of town where young posh families chose to start their families. And over the years, it has changed beyond recognition. We have a lot of international customers that come three or four times a year. We are the home to our beloved Silver Stars Basketball Team and the WNBA Silver Stars. I believe this is the area of San Antonio that will thrive and grow for many, many years to come.

3.     What would you suggest as the top 3 essentials in the winter that any parent should buy to brighten up their child’s wardrobe?
Becki: Gosh, we get to choose the best of both worlds for a winter wardrobe. For San Antonio, Texas it may be colder than usual this season, but it can be in the 70s and 80s some days! For us, sunscreen, cute little rain boots (both boy and girl), and a very colorful lightweight jacket would be my 3 picks for winter. On the other hand, we have grandparents who visit their grandkids for Christmas up North. My essentials for those travelling would be Le Top’s pink faux fur coat for girls, Le Top’s aviator jacket for boys, cozy PJ’s, beautiful bow accessories, and of course, good shoes for their feet. We are known at our store for our special bows. My daughter, Shannon, makes custom bows to match every outfit we have!

4.     What is your favorite holiday film past or present for kids/family?
Becki: Our favorite is “A Christmas Carol.” It has been a film reproduced many times. I think it reminds us to stop, look around, and remember there are families that need our help, not just at Christmas, but all year round. “God Bless You Tiny Tim.”

5.     Tell us…before you “had kids or grandkids, what is one thing you swore you’d never…?” Please share!
Becki: Ha-Ha, there are a lot. But one of my pet peeves is makeup on little baby girls. And, I would never let my kids pick out their clothes alone.

6.     The holidays are LITERALLY around the corner and it is the last weekend to buy holiday gifts before Christmas Eve. What are your top 3 items (clothes, toys, giftables, etc.) for any parent shopping for the holidays at your store?
Becki: This is true – right around the corner! We always suggest a classic children’s book. It is so wonderful to curl up with your kids and read to them. They love it! We carry a wide selection of gifts from tricycles to mini tables and chairs. Always a favorite, we also carry doll, Baby Stella. Our customers very seldom leave our store without Le Top’s Santa hat that they love.  You would be surprised about the number of pictures we get back with the adults wearing the Santa hat on top of their heads! It’s that “cute factor” going on. We also suggest for a little baby our Le Top Red Nosed Reindeer plush toy – the kids love the music when you squeeze it. It is also super soft and their [kids] tiny hands can hold on to any part of the toy.

7.     What’s your favorite holiday tradition and or nostalgic moment and why? Whether it be decorating the Christmas tree to eating peppermint bark to lighting the menorah candles to baking in the kitchen, etc….
Becki: Going together to Mass. But our nostalgic moment now has been watching the kids and their stockings. They run into the den, snag their stockings that are hanging on the mantel and run straight to my bed. (Thankfully, these moments give us a chance to pray and reflect on Christmases past. It’s also a great way to stop for a moment before we gather in the den that becomes present central. Now, I know the peek when they get their stockings, but What Child Wouldn’t!!!

8.     Any special events or fun holiday traditions that you have planned at your store before Christmas?
Becki: Stone Oak has had a Winter Festival for five years now. It is so much fun for the whole family. There is a treasure hunt from selected stores. The kids get so excited when the run into a store to see if a listed treasure is available. We have a symbol on our door letting the kids know we are a store that is part of the treasure hunt. When the hunt ends, we bring in tons of snow late that afternoon for the kids to play in. There are so many fun activities for the whole family, and we pray it is cold that day, but even if it isn’t, the kids still build snowmen and snowwomen, have snowball fights and then the Festival ends when the snow has melted away. But most importantly, we work with Pathways. It is a branch of charitable foster care. Every Christmas, we put together new Christmas clothes and toys for the charity before their holiday party. Our store tries to give as much of a variety of clothing as we can because our store carries sizes up to 6x that can cover all of their clothing needs. Because of security for the children, this is the first Christmas that they organization has invited us to join in the festivity! “Oh what fun! It is to ride, in a one horse open sleigh!!!” And thanks to companies like Le Top and others we are able to bless the children with memories that will stay with me forever.

9.     Tell us your best parenting tip you know or would want to give to a new parent.
Becki: Of course to love them, and as they begin to talk, take a step back, inhale a few deep breaths, and LISTEN, but hear them. You have to watch out because kids are honest to a fault. As Mr. Art Linkletter once said “Kids say the darndest and do the funniest things.” Love them unconditionally. They grow up so fast.”

10.     What collection or piece from Le Top or Le Top Baby line or Rabbitmoon do you love from the Fall/Holiday 2010 collection?
Becki: Love, Love, Love the Elves Collection! Paula (our manager) does our store window. When these outfits arrive to our store, she stuffed the body and legs with the little toes dangling. Oh they are so cute! We put one in the window about every half an hour. When she gets the elves hung up in the window, people see it and it’s out the door. Love Le Top’s aviator jacket and bomber hat. My grandson, Dean Aaron, is 3-years-old.  He comes from a military family stationed in Georgia. Since I mailed him the aviator jacket and hat to him, I don’t think he’s taken it off – but maybe only to bath and sleep. He is also wearing and loves his Reindeer Games Collection green cord pants and striped shirt.  He knows this Reindeer Collection because he wears one every season made by Le Top.
