LuckyDucksI have wanted to go the beach ever since the rain had stopped. Two months ago, I randomly picked a Saturday in June and wrote in my calendar “Go to the Beach!” A couple of days before Beach Day, the weather turned gray and it had started to rain. In fact, in some areas it started to hail. I said to myself, “NO WAY! This weather better not ruin my Beach Day.”

Early Saturday morning, we packed our beach gear then left the house. It was a bit chilly, and the clouds partially covered the blue sky, but I was determined. This is MY Beach Day, and we were going to go to the beach—whether it was sunny or not. I didn’t care if we froze out there and caught colds!! Our hour-long drive to the beach wasn’t promising. It had been cloudy all the way there, but as soon as we arrived at my favorite beach spot, lo and behold… It was a gorgeous, sunny day. Blue skies and a warm breeze. We were certainly “lucky ducks” to have perfect beach weather! Maybe it’s because I dressed my children in le•top’s 2009 Spring Lucky Duck and Tiptoe Tulip Ducklings collections. (Haha!) At our next beach trip, I think I’ll have them wear these outfits and see if we can be lucky again with a perfect, sunny day. Have you gone to the beach yet this year?

So, I wore my fabulously dramatic (not-so-cheap) black and white striped cotton Zara jacket to my friend’s birthday dinner the other night. Her 3-year-old daughter sat across the table and persistently tried to get my attention by shouting, “Excuse me! Excuse me!” Finally, the entire table stopped talking and turned to her. “What is it sweetie?”, I asked. She looked at me urgently and yelled, “You look like a ZEBRA!!” As we all burst out laughing, I thought how silly it is for us to sometimes go out of our way to look “fashionable”, and in an instant, a child can bring us back to the innocence and beautiful simplicity in which life should be lived! Then again, some kids do wear tutus all year around – but those kids grow up to wear “zebra” jackets! 😉

If you have one of those kids, or are just a fan of stripes – don’t forget about our Anchors Aweigh baby dress and coverall in a lovely stripe, and the Butterfly Wishes, black and white stripe swimsuit and cover-up dress!

Jordynne modeling her dress from the le•top Bloomin' Beauty collection, Spring 09

Our most recent Secret Contest winner sent us a wonderful gift. We love seeing babies and kids wearing our clothes, so when Steph T. sent us a photo of her daughter wearing our le•top Bloomin’ Beauty dress, we’re the ones who felt like we won a contest! It was wonderful of  Steph to tell us how much she loved the dress she won, simply for participating in le•top blog. The best part, though, was hearing that Jordynne loved it, too, and of her choosing to wear it to the Spring Party at Kindergarten. We can just imagine her twirling around at her party!

Miranda in Bloomin' Beauty. (Click on the image to see more from this le•top collection.)

After a day spent with Grandma, I picked up my daughter to find this bright pink and purple hair attachment clamped to the back of my daughter’s head. “What in the heck is that?!” My mom replied, “Well, we were at the mall, and she saw a girl wearing it, and we asked where she got it from, and well, Miranda really liked it, so I bought it for her.”

Other things that my mom has gotten for my daughter are:

  • Hannah Montana crayons
  • High School Musical pens
  • Letting her get her nails done (in very light pink so I wouldn’t see it right away… sneaky!)
  • DVDs (claiming that she doesn’t have DVDs at home)
  • Sugary snacks such as chocolate covered pretzels, Dora yogurt and Hello Kitty cookies (claiming that mommy doesn’t get her good snacks)

I rolled my eyes and sighed, and thought about the days when I was a little girl and my mom refused to buy such sassy things. She always gave me the response, “If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you jump off, too?” Of course, now that she has a granddaughter who wants all these trendy things, my mom doesn’t even bat an eye. She gets it for her in a snap!

I wonder if I’ll be doing the same when I have grandkids. Probably. I guess it’s easy to spoil grandchildren than it is your own children.
