Miranda in her favorite sweater of the season (from le•top's 2009 Fall Kaleidescope Collection).

The first day of fall for 2009 (in the Northern Hemisphere) was September 22nd.  Ever since Miranda learned that little nugget of information in Kindergarten, she has constantly asked me (every day since September 22), “Is it Fall yet? Why is it so hot?” All I could say was, “Yes, it’s fall but it still feels like summer. I guess the sun is just having too much fun to cool things down.” I don’t know why she has been so persistent. Was she excited about Halloween? Going to the pumpkin patch? I don’t know.

On the first day when the weather looked cloudy and cold, she asked me again, “Is it fall yet, Mommy?”

“Yes, it looks like it.”

“Yay! I can wear my favorite sweater!”

It figures. It would be fashion-related coming from my little girl. (sigh!)

Sit. Roll over. Stand up…

Sounds like tricks you teach a dog, but they’re actually milestones for my 5-month old son, Paulo. If I put him in a sitting position, he can stay seated for maybe 3-4 seconds before he tips over. He definitely can roll over—and over and over—making his way from one corner of the room to the door jamb where he usually “whimpers” for some assistance because his foot got stuck along the way. He’s got a ways to go before he can stand up, but Big Sister Miranda is there to lend a helping hand.

I never imagined that my 5-year old and my 5-month old would play together happily, but here they are enjoying each other’s company, being each other’s best friend.

Paulo is wearing a coverall from le•top’s 2009 Fall/Winter collection, A Dog’s Life. Miranda is wearing a dress from le•top’s 2009 Early Fall collection, Vive Les Fleurs!

StberryMono2Well, maybe not quite bikini weather, but perhaps MONO-kini weather? This little darling shows us how they wear it in the Pacific Northwest. You have to wear clothes UNDER your swimsuit to stay warm. 🙂

This photo was sent in by one of our loyal blog readers, Jennifer from Seattle. Her daughter, Olivia (age 2) is sporting her birthday present — a new monokini from the le•top’s 2009 Strawberry Fields collection.  Jennifer explained that she “had to have something from the Strawberry Fields line” when she saw it featured in our “Swim Classes for Fun, Exercise and Safety” entry on our blog. (She’s a huge Beatles fan and, of course, loves the song “Strawberry Fields Forever.”) When her daughter opened her present, she refused to undress and proceeded to put her swimsuit on…OVER her clothes!

Hey, Olivia! It doesn’t matter how you want to wear it. You still look fabulous in le•top, dahling!

Visit the le•top website and click on “Online Shopping Options” to purchase your own Strawberry Fields Monokini and other outfits (some pictured below) from this fruity collection! Or you can visit our store locator to find a store near you. Whether it’s our online retailers or our walk-in boutiques, you’re in for a treat! OK, so tell us, do your kids have unique ways of wearing their swimwear?

Miranda in Flamingo Bay (left) and Sophia in Strawberry Fields

Miranda in Flamingo Bay (left) and Sophia in Strawberry Fields

A couple of weekends ago, we drove down to Southern California to attend a baby shower I’d been invited to. Knowing that the weather there is always much warmer than the San Francisco, I packed summer wear—mostly le•top outfits—since it’ll be awhile before we really get to wear them here in the Bay Area. We met up with my cousin and her kids at a park so that my daughter (Miranda) and her daughter (Sophia) could get some play time. They’re like sisters, these two. We call them “Double Trouble.” They’re both bossy and like to pick on the boys.

I was delighted to see Sophia in the le•top Strawberry Fields dress that I sent to her as a birthday gift. Meanwhile, Miranda was decked out in my favorite le•top collection, Flamingo Bay. What’s fabulous is, that although these outfits are from two different collections, they complement each other very well! Perfect for sisters, twins, cousins, friends — who like to dress alike but not exactly the same.

Desmond, the animal lover!

Desmond, the animal lover!

This is my nephew, Desmond. He LOVES animals! He goes crazzzzy every time he visits the zoo! So when I saw this little Z-Z-Zebra outfit from le•top, I thought “Zzzzweet!” because I knew it would be perfect for him.

There are so many things I like about this collection: First of all, the design is unique and original (as all le•top and rabbit moon clothing are). It’s not the traditional black & white zebra. It’s baby blue and olive (not the usual color palette you’d see in boy’s clothes), and it really works. I love it! Secondly, the fabric is velour, so it’s very soft and comfortable — feels like pajamas but they’re not. Who wouldn’t want to wear something so comfy? I wish I could walk around all day in something that felt like pajamas, but looks this fashionable. Thirdly, le•top’s sizing is spot on! My nephew is a big boy for someone who isn’t quite a one-year old yet, but this 12-month outfit fits him perfectly well! (I’ve also noticed that with my daughter’s clothes as well.)

Miranda holds her certificate with pride.

Miranda holds her certificate with pride.

Over the weekend, we went to a “Sibling Celebration” class at my hospital. My husband and I thought that it would be beneficial for Miranda (and ourselves) to go to this class as preparation for the new baby entering our lives.

In class, we watched Miranda make a friend in 5 seconds! (I admire this about her.) All kids made baby photo collages and drew pictures of their new families. (Apparently, even after the baby has arrived, I will still have a belly bump. Also, you will notice that Miranda drew herself in her le•top Pink Leopard dress. How cute is that?) The class took a little tour of the nursery where the new big brothers and sisters got a chance to see a brand new baby!

We returned to the classroom and had circle time where the teacher showed the kids how to hold a baby, change its diaper, burp the baby, etc. I thought it would make me cry to see my little girl hold the doll, but instead, I felt the exact opposite. I was beaming with joy as I watched her carefully cradle the baby. She would even tickle the doll under the chin. She was a pro! She’s going to be a magnificent big sister. It all comes so naturally to her.

Girly, yet casual... go for le•top's Flower Power collection.

Girly, yet casual... go for le•top's Flower Power collection.

Earlier this month, Miranda had her “Special Day” at preschool. Special Day means that since her birthday is during the summer when there is no preschool, she gets to have a Special “Miranda” Day to celebrate all things Miranda. She brought her favorite book to read in class (Baloney Henry P. – she likes all things outer space-related) and shared her favorite board game with her classmates (Caribou by Cranium). She was also the teacher’s helper: the flag holder during the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the calendar pointer while reciting the months of the year in front of the classroom all by herself. This is a great opportunity for parents to take oodles of photos of their child!

As it was her “Special Day” (and because I was going to take oodles of photos!), I wanted to get her more dressed up than usual for preschool. I decided on le•top’s Flower Power shirt and pant set, thinking the outfit provided that little extra to make her stand out, while still being comfortable enough to sit on the floor (as well as the other activities of school!). It certainly did! I love the bright colors and the soft fabrics. The aqua shirt is velvety soft, and the corduroy pants are colorful and pliant (unlike most corduroy pants which are usually heavy, scratchy and stiff.)

After 2-1/2 hours of “Special Day” activities, we drove home with a crown atop her head and a big smile on her face! Miranda usually starts peeling off her clothes the moment we set foot in the house, wanting to change into something more comfy. But not that day! She loves wearing all her le•top clothes – even the dresses! – to play in, jump around in, and even for just sitting around in at home (which is fine, because these clothes are durable!).

I keep getting reminded: though le•top clothes are very stylish and adorable…they are made for comfort…with REAL kids in mind! And who’s a better judge than a 4-year old girl who is special in so many ways – not just one day, but every day!
