Kid's Klothesline Holiday window

Kid's Klothesline Holiday window featuring le•top

In 1996 Tania Yoder, pregnant with her first child, attended a family reunion.  As conversations swirled around her she overheard one of her cousins trying to convince another cousin to take over her children’s shop.  She whispered to herself “I would like to do that.”  Once Tania voiced her inner feelings there was a chorus of support – and her dream moved towards becoming reality.  The original owner helped Tania relocate the store to Perrysburg Ohio, Tania’s home.  Her son Grant was born in September of 1996 and in February of 1997 Kid’s Klothesline of Perrysburg Ohio opened and became an instant hit!

Over the past 13 years Kid’s Klothesline has evolved in many ways – starting with the variety of collections that Tania chooses.  She feels that one of her boutique’s strengths is providing a wide assortment that ranges from classic and traditional looks that appeal to her favorite customers (‘Grandmas, Grandmas, Grandmas!’) to clothes that keep her girl’s 7-14 regulars coming back until they have ‘outgrown’ the store!

Kid's KlotheslineKid’s Klothesline’s style has evolved, but its ‘family’ has expanded!  The true secret to Tania’s success is her staff – a caring and loving group that ‘works and plays together!’  Tania cherishes her store manager, Teresa Gagnon Meredith, a treasured fixture since the store opened.  Loyal customers complete Tania’s ‘family’ – and bring her the satisfaction of sharing important occasions and milestones with the members of her community.  She loves seeing the photographs of christenings, 1st birthdays and first days of school – in special outfits that she helped choose.  “There is nothing better than helping a new grandma select baby’s first outfit!”

Perrysburg Ohio is a beautiful area with a rich history, dating back to the early 1800’s.  The historic shopping district provides a safe and comfortable shopping experience that has an old fashioned feel that does not need to be manufactured.  Tania loves being a part of this supportive and close knit community.  Her favorite time is during the holidays when families come back to town to visit and always stop in to shop and share photos of the extended ‘family.’

Thirteen years ago Tania’s life changed – and as she relates “It’s like being locked into a roller coaster and hanging on for the ride, but loving what I do so much!”  We know everyone loves what you do Tania – keep it up!

If you are near Perrysburg stop in and say hello to Tania and her family!

Baby Bug and Me

Butterfly Kisses and ladybug hugs…sleep tight little one like a bug in a rug” – author unknown

Judy Novininger has a passion for all things beautiful.  She shared her vision by opening an upscale gift boutique in the Camp Hill area of Pennsylvania named for Pennsylvania’s state bug – Lightning Bug.  In September of 2003, inspired by new grandchildren and the continuing quest to fill the need for wonderful gifts with a personal touch, a new entity ‘flickered’ to life – Baby Bug and Me. Six years later Baby Bug and Me is thriving in its new location on Market street just below the West Shore Farmers Market in downtown Lemoyne, Pennsylvania.

baby bug and me inside 4Baby Bug and Me has achieved Judy’s desired goal of excellence, recognized for four consecutive years as the winner of Harrisburg Magazine Reader’s Choice Award in the children’s clothing category.  First honored in 2005, Judy tells us that these awards have brought her wonderful and memorable moments.  The superb and extensive merchandise selection has propelled Baby Bug to the top of the accolades list.  Featuring shoes (Judy’s new favorite,) clothing (le•top is a best-seller in both girls and boys!) books, toys and more.  Judy enjoys selecting the Christening and Dedication outfits she offers for both boy’s and girl’s special day.  Phone orders are gladly accepted at this first-class boutique, as well as offering the ability to easily order basics for a child’s wardrobe at www.babybugandme.com.

Judy is an involved member of the community as well, choosing a special charity to partner with each year, ranging from the Cerebral Palsy Foundation to the YWCA. This fall the leading collections at the store will be featured in the YWCA Power of Style Fashion Show, benefiting the Women’s and Children’s Crisis Center in Harrisburg.

Judy and her staff are accommodating and attentive to all their customers “little” needs. Take a short jaunt to the Lemoyne area, or just peruse their website, to be greeted by a friendly face, a caring staff and the best selection of baby and children’s items in the area.

Nana and Peepaw as Penguins this past Halloween

Nana and Peepaw as penguins this past Halloween

A very close friend of mine, Tom, became a first-time uncle several years back. Of course, the chain of familial ties would then make his parents first-time grandparents. It would not be an understatement to say they were ECSTATIC to become grandparents. When this first grandchild was old enough to utter her first few words, she christened her grandfather, “Peepaw”. This distinguished man, having graduated from the Citadel, retiring after decades of service at GE as an engineer, and having raised 4 children with his wonderful wife, is now known by family and close friends as “Peepaw”! We have no idea how his adoring granddaughter came up with Peepaw, but it stuck. Peepaw’s wife is called, “Nana”…a name that I just love. I told her I’d always wished for a “Nana” of my own, and of course, she told me she would be mine…which so touched me that I teared up, so I got a big, loving hug from her…of course!…that’s what Nanas do!! 🙂

With her adoption of Henry Mantu, Carol, another close friend, made her parents into grandparents four times over. Henry Mantu’s grandparents are called, “Oma” and “Opa” (the German version of grandma and grandpa).

I don’t know, it seems like no matter what new name I hear, they all sound so endearing and special…I’m so charmed by them…probably because there’s just something so special about grandparents.

Nicholas and Dylan planting tulip bulbs

Nicholas and Dylan planting tulip bulbs

What magic of heart, soul and just serendipitous or fateful good fortune gives us the gifts that make life so abundant and fulfilling? Way back at Christmas time, Paul and I received a wonderful gift…Nicholas and Dylan (the grandsons of our heart) surprised us by planting beautiful red cyclamen in the bed by our pool. When we returned from Hong Kong, the color in the drab winter months was fabulous! Of course there was a great story that went along with their gift; Dylan (the younger, less ‘careful’ of our wonderful boys) somehow managed to fall in the pool! Needless to say the water was VERY cold back in December!

Nicholas and Dylan (in towel) after the planting and a little swim

This month we had our second ‘surprise’ gift – under the winter cyclamen the boys had planted tulips! This month they all popped up – a true riot of color!  I LOVE tulips – they are such ‘happy’ flowers! Last Sunday Nicholas and Dylan were visiting, along with my grandsons Otto and Wade.  Everyone was admiring the beautiful tulips when…SPLASH! Dylan, “never” vigilant, stepped backwards into the pool…again! Otto came in the house to tell us what had happened, but he was laughing so hard he couldn’t even talk!

When I look out my window I see bright beautiful tulips, and relive the laughter  — but, mostly, I feel enormous gratitude to the winds that blew such cherished people into our lives.

Spring tulips, beautiful and riotously colorful, just like their gardeners!

Otto thinks about jail

My grandson, Otto, recently had an outing with his other grandmother – Nana. As they drove down the street, the ever-observant Otto noticed a parked police car, facing traffic, with a radar gun pointed at oncoming cars.

Otto: That policeman was pointing a gun at us.
Nana: That was a radar gun, so he could find out if someone is speeding.
Otto: What would he do?
Nana: He might give the person speeding a ticket.

Long silence…

Otto: Then what would happen?
Nana: They might have to go to jail.

Another long silence…

Otto: What is jail?
Nana: It is a place you go until the judge sees you in court.

Very long silence…

Otto: Is it the same as a hotel room with a fruit basket?

Obviously Otto has stayed in nice hotels…

Wade hitches a ride with dad at first. Otto looks like he's ready to make a snowball!

I admit it — I’m showing off photos of my grandchildren again! Their parents took the boys to “see” snow for the first time! They just drove up past Baxter somewhere, along Highway 80 – it was snowing so hard they closed the road. They took a little sled and trudged around for a bit, and then came back (at their age, it doesn’t take much to entertain them!). Otto was really excited to tell me he threw a snowball at his parents!

For those of you who are just done with snow because you have it all the time, this whole practice must seem very odd. That’s OK. My son-in-law’s family and friends back around Boston think it’s weird to actually TRY to get to snow (never mind getting in a car and drive to it)…the things we do for our kids!
