We went from sunny beach days to cold rainy days in a blink of an eye! Just when I put away the raincoats and rain boots, the rain comes. Good thing I didn’t get a car wash after our road trip.

Usually my son, Paulo and I would walk my daughter, Miranda to her classroom when we drop her off at school. If it’s drizzling a little, we’ll still walk her to class. (At pick up time, if it’s raining too hard that I can’t pick up my daughter at her classroom, she and I have agreed on a Plan B. It’s very important to have a contingency plan – for her safety – when our normal routine gets interrupted.)

This morning, although it wasn’t raining too hard, it was quite windy. So I parked the car, bundled up my daughter in her bright green slicker, and watched her walk from the gate all the way to her classroom with her little rainbow umbrella moving past the other kids. Paulo, nice and warm in his car seat, sadly looked out the wet window and murmured “Bye, Sister! ‘Rada go school.”

No, I did not say that!

My husband gave our daughter his old alarm clock radio so that she can wake up early and start to get ready for school, while he got ready for work. She was very excited!

The first morning, he had to wake her up. Apparently, he set the wrong clock time. He had the AM and PM switched so the radio came on at 7:30 PM that night.

The next morning, he had to wake her up again. Apparently, he forgot to turn ON the alarm clock.

The following morning he had to wake her up AGAIN (for the third time)!

“Did your alarm clock work today?”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

The radio woke me up so I got up and turned it off. Then I went back to sleep.”

A little girl was on her swing set as her daddy pushed her up in the air. She squealed with delight saying, “I can almost touch heaven!” Then she paused and asked,

Daddy, how do you get back down from heaven?”

My daughter was enjoying a lollipop this weekend and I asked her what it tasted like. She simply said,

Yellow.”

– Lilah, age 3

I guess if you don’t have years of experience eating lollipops (like I do) it can be hard to differentiate the flavors.

My friend and her husband took their daughter to her first hockey game. One of the players was sent to the penalty box. She asked her parents,

So when he comes out of the penalty box, is he going to say ‘sorry’?”

My friend, Jessica’s daughter figured out how to take photos with her iPhone. As Jessica scrolled through her phone’s photos, she found pictures of EVERYTHING going on in their house: Her daughter’s bedroom, the play room, home decorations, and and yes… a VERY candid shot of Jessica nursing her newborn baby. She tried to delete the photo but her daughter ran off with her phone saying,

Mommy, don’t worry. There’s NOOOOO nipple in the shot!”

Ellen Pompeo, 39, and husband Chris Ivery welcomed a daughter, Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery, on Sept. 15 in Los Angeles, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.  Ellen and Chris married in 2007 and announced they were expecting in April.  In an interview with Allure in 2008 Ellen had this to say about motherhood, “It’s a huge lifestyle change, and I take it very seriously.”

Why the ‘name change for the show?  There’s been quite the baby boom on the Grey’s set – costar Katherine Heigl recently adopted a daughter, 10-month-old Naleigh, while Chyler Leigh is also a new mom to daughter Anniston Kae, 4 months.

Congratulations to Ellen and Chris and ALL the new parents of Grey’s Anatomy!  This set should be a fun place – especially if everyone brings their baby to work!  All of us at le•top are excited about their baby boom!

Inside her Beautiful Store with her Lovely Family

Jackie and her Family inside Lily Pads & Lullabies

Jackie Frazier and her husband live in an area that is a virtual paradise for families – Centerville Utah, nestled up to the Wasatch foothills and a stone’s throw from the beautiful Great Salt Lake.  Skiing is heavenly during the winter, and summer brings recreation from water sports to hiking.  Jackie couldn’t wait to add a baby to her family!  After waiting far too long for the blessed event Jackie turned to every expectant mom’s favorite ‘sport’ – shopping!  Jackie was disappointed that she couldn’t find a children’s store in her area that provided the special experience she craved for her long awaited baby.  Once her beautiful daughter Alexa was born she couldn’t bear leaving her in day care – so she put 2 + 2 together and a very special children’s store was born – Lily Pads and Lullabies!

Alexa, Jackie's Inspiration, Wearing Butterfly Wishes from Spring 2009

Jackie’s daughter Alexa spends her days with mommy, very fitting since the name of the store was inspired by one of her cute baby poses.  Jackie told us that “she always slept with her little bum in the air, sucking on her pink binky.”  The store logo was inspired by this sweet and innocent vision.  Jackie has created the atmosphere she herself dreamed of finding – the store is beautiful, warm and inviting.  Her customers love the exceptional customer service, the inviting ambiance and the large play area for children.

Jackie loves watching the reaction of new mothers who come into the store – “Aw!” –  their expression of excitement when they realize they have found that ‘special place’ that has everything to welcome their precious newcomer!  Jackie feels that her store is the perfect place for “everyone” – and through her website anyone can enjoy all the warmth that she has poured into this wonderful boutique.  One customer writes:

I love it! Warm, happy environment. Great play area for kids. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Finally, a baby store that makes me feel special! ‎”

The “le•top Family” has been working on reducing our ‘carbon footprint’ – and we know that it all starts at home.  Robyn, Assistant Credit Manager and mom, decided to combine 2 lessons into one – responsibility for our environment and financial independence!

Kira Showing her Recycling Earnings

Kira showing off her recycling earnings

Robyn decided that her 9 year old daughter Kira (a model since she was 6 months old!) was ready for a little more responsibility.  According to Robyn, “Recycling is an important factor in helping the environment therefore it has become part of my family’s daily routine. Things we use everyday can be recycled and it doesn’t even take much! Kira has been practicing the 3-R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! My family and I have always used the recycling bin given by the city but never thought of turning some of the material in for cash. My husband and I made a deal with Kira; if she is responsible enough to take care of all the recycling, including rinsing out cans, jars, and bottles and placing them into the appropriate bins, then we will take her to the local recycling center to turn it in for cash. It’s a fun activity for her because not only is she saving the planet, she also gets to keep the cash all to herself. She’s making a difference and having fun at the same time!”

I thought this was an awesome way to motivate – and great for the environment!  When my daughter Lilah is a bit older we will definitely utilize this idea.  I have to admit…I do not love rinsing out everything – so why not give her a chance to earn some pocket money!  By the way…would this count as an ‘allowance?’  Do parents still pay ‘allowances’ – or am I dating myself?
