So cute!” was a phrase I repeated often during the photo shoot as I hastily ushered the parents and their talented toddlers to set.  It was impossible to ignore how adorable all the little models looked! Peggy (our amazing hair and make-up stylist) had lots of tricks up her sleeve to make the little darlings even more lovable. From teeny tiny pig-tails to fresh flowers  woven into a little girl’s hair – the models looked absolutely precious!

I hurried between the waiting room (AKA the design room) and the set (AKA the warehouse) all day. Whenever we were short on time my pace turned into a gallop – something that could only be visualized with a Benny Hill show soundtrack in the background. Fortunately – apart from a couple of stranded parents I found wandering aimlessly between rows of boxes – I managed to get all participants on and off set on time. Needless to say, working with models that are bundles of joy is a lot of fun! And boy, are they cute!

As a child I remember seeing relatives or friends after a long absence, and the first thing they would say would be “You’ve grown so much!”  I know that every parent sees their children, knows they are growing, but rarely thinks about just how much they have grown…until someone with ‘fresh’ eyes calls attention to their transformation into ‘big kids!’

Here at Le Top we have watched so many children “grow up Le Top” – and the evidence is right in front of us – because we have walls filled with photos of ‘Le Top past’ – modeled by children that have now grown up so much!  As you walk down the hallway of Le Top it is like a walk through time…

d&N

Nicholas and Dylan – our National Sales Manager’s sons – are represented from tiny babies until they were just too big for the clothes! It is really fun to see them ‘grow up’ in front of the camera – and at the same time see the evolution of our fabulous le•top clothing!  Nicholas and Dylan are now 11 and 10 years old – but I think they love the fact that their ‘baby pictures’ are poster size!  Otto – my oldest grandson – made the sad transition OUT of le•top this year.  Although our ‘little prince’ did his last photo shoot for the fall season (a real pro!) we are lucky to have his understudy ready to step in…Wade, his younger brother!

w&o

Robyn’s two girls, Kira and Alyssa, have also been involved in the le•top photo shoots from early in their lives.  Teeny tiny nine year old Kira may still be able to fit into a 6X, but definitely looks her age… so we have called in her very cute replacement – little sister Alyssa – to be the next ‘star.’

k&a

It has, and will continue to be, really fun to watch the little ones grow…and to be remembered with great photos of Le Top ‘outfits past.’  One thing is for certain…we love our little ‘rogues gallery!’

Go See Madness2

Hmmm, do we need a bigger office???

Although it seems as though the Fall 2009 photo shoot was just yesterday… another season’s photo shoot has come and gone! This amazing moment in time was for our Spring 2010 line. (Already spring you say?  We work well ahead of the ‘normal’ calendar!) Our model tryouts (in the biz known as a go-see) happened on July 9th. It was organized chaos with over 100 children turning out to smile and pose (a wonderful crowd!) and way too many adorable little ones – making it a very challenging series of decisions! The photo shoot for both Le Top and Rabbitmoon happened the second to last week of July. It was an exhausting week – but a fabulous success! Many thanks to everyone who assisted, especially the delightful kids! We can’t wait to share the Spring season’s collections and all the adorable photos with you but…it will have to wait. Sometimes it’s hard for us to keep track of what month, season and year we’re working on perfecting!  We are currently shipping Fall 2009 collections to our fabulous retailers, so take a gander at all the fabulous styles.

Tickle Stick

Out comes the infamous ‘tickle stick!

I think everyone wonders what happens ‘behind the scenes’ – here are a couple under-cover shots from the Le Top photo shoot.

Baby

Beware – baby ‘off’ board!

Lucy and Monelle preparing for the runway...

Lucy and Monelle in le•top's Strawberry Fields collection preparing for the runway

I was so surprised to hear from J. at Yellow Turtle the other day. I mean, not only was it a Sunday, but it was Mother’s Day! J. has two gorgeous, wonderful children, Jessie and Alec, who (along with Liana Hunt) were the very early le•top child “models”, so I know they were all celebrating together. But J. was thinking beyond Mother’s Day and sending me emails about the wonderful event Yellow Turtle had taken part: the 9th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope. This event, held in Stowe, Vermont “is an annual forum for education, enlightenment, and recreation for cancer patients and survivors with any type of cancer…and their families.”

One of the events was a fashion show, and Yellow Turtle had two adorable girls modeling le•top! Lucy (3) and Monelle (19mos) are both devoted Yellow Turtle customers. 😉 The outfits they modeled were received with many “oooohs and ahhhhhs”, according to J.! Sounds like the fashion show was an enormous success and a wonderful event for cancer patients and survivors, taking place in beautiful and restorative Stowe. As a cancer survivor myself, I can see why this event would be a joyful and hope-filled experience, given the venue. Stowe is a wonderful place, the people welcoming and warm. I hope this event continues to grow and inspire many. Congratulations, Yellow Turtle for contributing to this great event and giving back to your community and beyond.

Kids coming and going at our crazy-fun go-see!

Design Manager, Anna managing kids coming and going at our crazy-fun go-see!

January and February are always exciting months here at le top! During this time we finalize our new collection for the fall and winter – yes, we have to work that far ahead! – then we put together everything to show off our designs to buyers for the season. What does that take? In a word – lots!!! Our first step is getting in all our samples, and “fluffing” them (my word) for taking care of any little problems, hanging, pricing, tagging and finally shipping out a set of everything to our sales representatives located all over the United States.

Second big challenge – photography! This crazy fun task starts with a ‘go-see’ – fashion terminology for model tryouts (I think I promised a little “more” about our go-see a couple months ago when I  first wrote about this. Sorry it took so long – I’m only now coming up for air). This is always pure madness! The go-see is held at our corporate offices – and this year we had a huge turn-out – 128 darlings! Loads of energy – I wish I could bottle and sell it! We joke that we do our own version of “American Idol” – since Karen, our art director, Charly, and I all sit at a table and ‘see’ all the little cuties one by one as they try on our new styles. We look at how the clothes fit and whether the child seems to like doing the modeling – then we have to make some really difficult decisions! Once we have our cast, we start planning our actual photo shoot. Our fabulous photographer, Marcy Maloy met with Charly and me to discuss the details of sets, lighting and all the little details that go into making our magical photos.

This season all the stars aligned and we have great photographs and a very exciting collection! Our sales representatives are showing the samples to store buyers – and they love it! Of course the new fall collections will not be in stores until June, July and August – but here are a few sneak peeks from the photo shoot!le-top-fall-photo-shoot-09-1le-top-fall-photo-shoot-09-3
