Paulo is wearing a faux leather jacket and matching hat from the le•top Air Show collection.

A couple of days after our son turned 9-months, he took his first “solo” steps and can almost be counted as a member of the 2-legged walking club. He’s still a bit hesitant to let go of the table (the couch, the exersaucer, etc.) and usually reverts to crawling, but he’s getting there. Meanwhile, I should take advantage of this time to child-proof the house since this little guy will get anywhere FAST!

No, no, no, Paulo!

le•top baby: Toy Pony overalls from 2009 Fall/Winter Collection

Barely six months and my little guy has already started to crawl. Now he’s getting into everything! I cannot leave him for one second because if I do, I will find him playing with something other than his toys. His current favorites are: shoes, newspapers and electrical cords. Ugh! I miss the days when I can lay him on his blanket and know he’s not going to roll over anywhere.

Sit. Roll over. Stand up…

Sounds like tricks you teach a dog, but they’re actually milestones for my 5-month old son, Paulo. If I put him in a sitting position, he can stay seated for maybe 3-4 seconds before he tips over. He definitely can roll over—and over and over—making his way from one corner of the room to the door jamb where he usually “whimpers” for some assistance because his foot got stuck along the way. He’s got a ways to go before he can stand up, but Big Sister Miranda is there to lend a helping hand.

I never imagined that my 5-year old and my 5-month old would play together happily, but here they are enjoying each other’s company, being each other’s best friend.

Paulo is wearing a coverall from le•top’s 2009 Fall/Winter collection, A Dog’s Life. Miranda is wearing a dress from le•top’s 2009 Early Fall collection, Vive Les Fleurs!

1stSmileIt’s the best feeling to get a smile from your baby. His response that tells you that he recognizes your face and your voice. At five weeks, as I cooed to my son, I finally got my first smile from him. But capturing it on film is another story. So this is my attempt at getting him to smile, while holding my iPhone at just the right distance so that I could capture his toothless grin and email it to Daddy. (And in this picture, he looks just like his Daddy.)

We had a milestone weekend. We sold our daughter’s crib. I didn’t really think it would be that big of a deal but when I got off the phone with the buyer, I suddenly realized that our lives were changing. I felt a little sad that her baby years were officially gone. The craigslist buyer came by on Sunday (yes, Mother’s Day) to pick up the crib.  I hadn’t even dismantled it yet since we let her sleep in it one last night. It was a frenzy to get it taken apart, and Lilah watched somewhat bewildered as her crib was hauled out the door and loaded into someone else’s car. I assured her that she was now a big girl and could sleep in a regular bed. We told her that her new bed was on the way.

Lilah's last night in her crib and her first night in a big-girl bed...

Lilah's last night in her crib, and her first night in a big-girl bed...

Not ten minutes later my parents showed up with the new bed. We went over every detail of it with her and explained that it was special, just for her. Unfortunately, she won’t be able to sleep in it for about a week since we still have to stain and seal it. While we worked on it during the day Lilah played in the built-in toy box. It will be a big hit once it’s all done.

We temporarily moved a twin bed into her room and put all the pretty bedding on. When I went to put her down for a nap, I realized that if she wanted to just get out of bed, she could. Of course, she did! She ended up falling asleep next to grandpa watching a show on Sprout. At bedtime I had to spend much more time that usual reading and making her comfortable so she didn’t just get out of bed. She fell asleep after about 10 times of reading our usual book. One time during the night she awoke feeling a bit out of sorts, but I was able to snuggle up to her and get her back to sleep. A pillow then took my place, and she blissfully slept through the rest of the night. I can’t wait until we get the 6am wake-up from her on the weekend with her staring at us wondering why we’re not up. Like I said, life is changing! I can’t believe she’s 28 months already.

There are so many ways to record your baby’s life and milestones. My mom kept a baby book for each of her children, and till this day, I treasure it! In fact, I love reading and comparing my development with my daughter’s development. My daughter started eating solid foods at 6 months, yet my mom had me eating steak and chicken at 4 months! Boy, have the times changed.

This is probably overkill (either because she’s my first child or I’m an over-achiever) but I have a baby book, a website (updated monthly), and several scrapbooks for my daughter. I can’t seem to stop recording her life! My husband asks every time I have filled yet another scrapbook, “So what are you going to do with these scrapbooks?”

Me: They’re mine! When she moves out and goes to college, I’m not giving these to her. I’m keeping them. These are MY memories.

Husband: So when are you going to stop scrapbooking and updating her website?

Me: When she’s graduated from high school. No. When she’s finished her doctorate. Wait! After she gets married. Uh… maybe when she has children. I don’t know. Don’t ask.

Do you do the same or am I just insane?
