Unless you don’t have a TV, computer, Twitter, Facebook, radio or some sort of news source…you must be inundated by the news on the upcoming royal wedding. With all of the hype, and the likelihood that you will tune in this Friday to see Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, I figured why not make princess crowns like Kate’s for your little girl and turn it into an even more festive occasion (other than popcorn in front of the TV). Here is how to make a Foil-and-Paper Crown that is just PERFECT for this Friday’s special day!

p.s. – what little girl doesn’t like to dress up as ‘princess’? 🙂

Items Needed:

–        aluminum foil
–        colored tissue paper of your child’s choice
–        stickers and or gems from a local craft store
–        glue
–        tape

Crowns How-To

  1. Tear off aluminum foil 20 inches long. Fold in half twice, long sides together, or cuff; lay cuff with opening toward top.
  2. Fold 20-inch-wide tissue paper in half lengthwise twice; lay inside V of the cuff, folded edge up, so bottom edge is just below center of cuff.
  3. Fold foil strip in half again, folding up from the bottom (this will hold the tissue in place).
  4. Cut flat-topped points in tissue paper, leaving attached at the fold, and decorate with stickers or fake gems from a local craft store.
  5. Overlap ends to proper size, and slip one end of foil inside the other. Tape or glue together.
  6. Feel free to add jewels from your local craft store to add some “bling, bling”!

It’s official. Tina Fey, comedienne/actress, revealed that she was 5-months pregnant with her second child while taping the Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday. She and her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, are also parents to 5 year-old daughter, Alice.

The news comes just a day after Fey’s 30 Rock co-star Alec Baldwin announced that their hit sitcom will come to an end next year (12).

In her book “Bossypants,” Fey, 40, wrestled with the idea of having another child.

“I thought that raising an only child would be the norm in Manhattan, but my daughter is the only child in her class without a sibling,” Fey wrote. “Most kids have at least two.”

Fey also wrote about how being a parent changed her as a boss.

“The biggest thing you realize when you have a kid is how many other people in your workplace are dealing with that,” she wrote. “When you’re single, you’re like, ‘Let’s work ’til 10.’ You don’t care. Once you have a kid, you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, if I’m exhausted because my kid was up all night with a cold, so are 10 other people.’ It makes you more of a sympathetic human being.”

In my opinion Fey has to be one of the brightest, funniest and most talented people around. Congratulations to the happy family from all of us at Le Top!

We think the Le Top “Petit Duckling” Footed Coverall with Wrap Styling would be the perfect outfit for her little munchkin with its classic design and super soft cotton.

My hero to all things homemaking, Martha Stewart’s, only child, Alexis Stewart, 45, welcomed her first child on Tuesday, March 8th – a baby girl! Her name is Jude and was born via gestational carrier. According to Alexis’ morning radio show, Whatever with Alexis & Jennifer, she announced that Martha won’t be called Grandma! Martha is going to be called, “Martha.” We are so overjoyed for Martha’s new granddaughter. Cheers to the Stewart family. We think this lovely Le Top Baby “Set Sail! Girl” Collection ribbed short sleeve bodysuit would be so simple (Martha’s style) and cute for her new bundle of joy!

It wouldn’t be an Oscar party without popcorn right? Ditch the super artificial microwave version and treat your guests to homemade caramel corn. This is a great “make-ahead” recipe, whether it is the morning before or even the day before (just slip it into a Ziploc baggy!).

INGREDIENTS:

  • cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar

 DIRECTIONS:

  1. Pop the popcorn.
  2. Prepare the caramel. Just combine the butter and the brown sugar in the saucepot on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture boils. Turn off the stove and remove the saucepot from the heat.
  3. Dump the popped corn into the serving bowl. Drizzle the caramel mixture over the popcorn. Mix it up with wooden spoon instead of with your hands because it is HOT. Make sure to let your Caramel Corn cool off before you eat it.

Emme Maribel and Max David Anthony are having their 3rd birthday today. These darling fraternal twins recently modeled with their Idol mom, Jennifer Lopez, for a new Gucci children’s clothing advertisement. It seems they also have that star quality. Whether they are in Miami or Los Angeles we think outfits from our “School of Fun” brother/sister collections would be a perfect fit. Emme could run around town in the Le Top “School of Fun” stripe racerback top and fish print capri pants while Max would be a hit in the matching stripe shirt and hungry fish print short. Enjoy your birthday Max and Emme!

Paulo is wearing T-Rex Touchdown from Letop's 2010 Fall/Winter Collection

I didn’t want to do it, but I had to do it. I wanted to keep my baby boy’s hair untouched by a pair of scissors because I am thinking that this is the only way for me to hold on to his “baby-ness.” Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Unfortunately, Paulo’s hair kept getting in his eyes and he was constantly rubbing his hands trying to move his long bangs out of his face. So the time has come for… Paulo’s First Haircut!

With my daughter, her first haircut was just at a nearby cheap-o haircutting salon. No frills. She was excited to do it because she has seen me do it before. She sat still through the entire session! Maybe it’s a girl thing. I don’t know. I took her before and after pictures, and saved a lock of her hair for her baby book. With Paulo, I knew this guy wasn’t going to be that easy. I’ve heard of these special children’s hair salons where they had horses, motorcycles and cars that kids can sit in. While they were watching a DVD of “Sesame Street” or “Dora the Explorer,” the hairstylist was chopping away as fast as he/she could while the child was distracted. So, I already knew that this is where I needed to go. They had him in-and-out in 15 minutes! Yeah, it was a bit more expensive but it was definitely worth it! Included with the price was a “My First Haircut” certificate, a photo and a little bag of his hair.

So now he looks older (especially in the convertible sports car) but he’s still my handsome little devil.

It was Family Movie Night and we were watching “Evan Almighty” on TV. The exciting part of the movie came on. The dam broke and the big flood came and swept the ark away. The room was silent as we sat engrossed in the thrilling scene, then we heard a little voice…

Uh-oh!

–Paulo, 17 months
