Sit. Roll over. Stand up…

Sounds like tricks you teach a dog, but they’re actually milestones for my 5-month old son, Paulo. If I put him in a sitting position, he can stay seated for maybe 3-4 seconds before he tips over. He definitely can roll over—and over and over—making his way from one corner of the room to the door jamb where he usually “whimpers” for some assistance because his foot got stuck along the way. He’s got a ways to go before he can stand up, but Big Sister Miranda is there to lend a helping hand.

I never imagined that my 5-year old and my 5-month old would play together happily, but here they are enjoying each other’s company, being each other’s best friend.

Paulo is wearing a coverall from le•top’s 2009 Fall/Winter collection, A Dog’s Life. Miranda is wearing a dress from le•top’s 2009 Early Fall collection, Vive Les Fleurs!

Puppy friends- Sarah 2

Sarah, Rudy and Krypton

Sarah, our “Dragon Boat Queen” and assistant designer, was recently asked to do a little puppy-sitting (are you sick of hearing about puppies yet?!) We were in the midst of our weekly blog meeting when Rudy, a long-haired teacup Chihuahua was dropped off to Sarah at the office!  Our meeting came to an immediate stop so we could all swoon over the little guy!  Even Krypton, Head Designer Pat’s wonder dog, came in to say “Howdy!”

Awww…just another day at le•top – livin’ and lovin’ all things warm and wonderful!

As you may have surmised…le•top is chock full of animal lovers – with dogs leading in the popularity poll!  The big news at le•top this week is that our designers will have four new puppies to inspire them as they design the next fabulous le•top collection.

Sylvia and Brandi

One of our great summer staffers – Franklin – announced that he was looking for homes for his litter of Golden Retriever/Labrador puppies.  When his SUV full of cute furry pups pulled up you would have thought we were having a fire drill!  The result?  Four of the puppies ending up joining our extended le•top family!  They were just too cute to resist!

Sweet Brandi went home with Sylvia (our EDI specialist and chief softy.) This is the ‘second time around’ for Sylvia’s family – she had already adopted Cosmo last year!

Tiffany and Zane

Tiffany (our Accounting supervisor) is happy to have Zane at home with her three children; why not have four to monitor!

Joy (pronounced Joe-ee,) one of our Order Packers, is “papa” to a new little girl, C.K., a name inspired by our corporate identity.

I couldn’t help myself!  I am the very proud new “mom” to gorgeous puppy Cali (short for California, our beautiful home state.)

The “new puppy club” agrees that adopting a 7 week old puppy is a lot of work!  Some of the ‘new parents’ have experience with animals – while some of us have zero experience – but we are all enjoying the rewards of ‘parenthood!’  Cali is great but quite a handful (to put it mildly!)  Housebreaking is one of the more difficult obstacles so far…or maybe it’s the fact that she wants to chew on anything and everything!  In spite of the fact that she bites our fingers and whines at night while we’re trying to sleep – I love her!

We are looking forward to a year from now…not just because they will all be trained, but because we have a celebration planned!  The “puppy club” is going to honor their first birthday with Sylvia’s homemade doggie cookies! I’m looking forward to that party!

Doggles

Riley – one of le•top’s “puppy crew” – is growing up!  His ‘mommy’ Marilyn, one of our extraordinary employees, fostered him when he was just a wee little pup. She fell so hard for him that she just couldn’t send him out for adoption… and, to be quite honest, we admit to nudging her to keep him!   He was a 9 pound pup when he first came to our office in January, and now, at 8 months young he is weighing in at 60 pounds!!!

Riley GogglesMarilyn is a volunteer at the Martinez Animal Shelter and has made a troop of great friends (both the four- and two- legged variety!)  Marilyn told her shelter manager Cindy how Riley loves to ‘swim’ and run through tall prickly grass.  On one of these “field trips” Riley ended up with foxtails stuck around his eyes!  Cindy received a pair of Doggles  (doggy goggles) as a donation to the shelter and immediately thought of Riley!

Marilyn captured a photo at home of Riley wearing his new shades and brought it in to share with us.  We thought you would love a ‘puppy chuckle’ seeing this wacky picture of Riley in his Doggles!

Personalized Gifts with Dog Biscuit Recipes for Fresh Breath, Fleas Be-Gone and more

Our loyal readers should know by now just how much we love dogs at le•top – so we can’t help but share our cute dog stories with you.  Dogs have always inspired us!  At this time of the year check out our puppy, please! collection while we share puppy celebrations that bring smiles to our faces.

Sylvia, our EDI expert, is mommy to a rambunctious 1 year old black lab named Cosmo…as in Kramer from the Seinfeld show. (déjà vu)  Cosmo was a rescue dog, and Sylvia was 1 of 7 chosen hand picked mommies from over 100 applicants that vied for the chance to adopt Cosmo, his brothers and sisters, and his “biological” mom.  This group of chosen mommies, and the foster mom who rescued the matriarch and her 5 day old pups, have banded together – creating a magical extended family.  They have become so close and are so touched by these pups’ story that they find it hard to separate these lucky dogs for too long.

Every three months these special owners bring the dogs back together for a “play date” of sorts.  This quarter they commemorated the pups’ first birthday – and they truly celebrated in style!  Sylvia baked custom cookies for each of the dogs, inscribed their name in doggie-safe frosting, and brought birthday hats for all the dogs to wear.  It was, needless to say, quite a fun birthday party.  By the time Sylvia got home, Cosmo was pooped!  He walked into the house and immediately passed out on the floor….What a fun day!

If you live in the SF Bay Area and are interested in donating, fostering or adopting an animal please check out the The Milo Foundation in San Rafael, CA. They found a happy home for Cosmo and his family.

It’s no secret that we LOVE clothes at Le Top! We are the invariable audience that goos and gushes over the sweetness of the le•top baby collection and laughs with delight at whimsical Le Top styles.  But we have a little secret here, behind the scenes…it’s the wildly creative fashions that our employees dream up for their four-legged friends (and sometimes office mates!)

Doggy Fashion copyCengx (our wonderful “style supporter” and A+ girl-Friday’s) incredibly energetic Pomeranian Charemie is always prancing in with the newest le•top outfit – an ‘original’ design that Cengx has customized in a truly unique kind of haute couture.  (We always know when Charemie is in the house – his little voice carries through walls!)  Karen loves to dress Olive (the wonder dog) in her New York Yankees outfit – whether to flaunt her loyalties at her sons’ baseball games, or make a simple fashion stroll around the office, aimed towards torturing loyal Giants and A’s fans!  Riley, Marilyn’s rambunctious rescued German Sheppard mix has long made his mark – he loves playing in his le•top namesake costume (Halloween will be a big day for Riley!) We would be amiss if we did not mention our more contemporary collection…Rolando, the head designer of rabbitmoon, is always pushing the trends! He loves creating fashion-forward garments for his Chihuahua Rooye. Why copy another rabbitmoon style – he creates chic styles for this fashion forward pup that we just had to share!

We know you adore clothes as much as we do – and we are betting that you dress your pets… just like this critter and fashion focused group!  Share with us! Send us a photo of your four-legged friend wearing a fashionable favorite!

Portuguese Water Dog

Portuguese Water Dog

It’s official! The first kids have a new pup! They’re reportedly calling him “Bo”, and he’s about 6 months old. The dog pictured is not the “first dog”, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of the new pooch! This type of breed is supposed to be good for people who have allergies to dogs, which Malia Obama has. I wonder if President Obama will take him to work, as we do here at le•top?
