Two minor earthquakes occurred in the San Francisco Bay Area last week (and one this morning). It was the first time my daughter felt one, and it reminded me that it’s time to explain what earthquakes are and prepare her for the steps to take when one occurs. I may or may not be with her when it happens (and it will) and I don’t want her to panic. Preparing her for the inevitable seems like a logical way to do that.

Here at Le Top, our Warehouse Manager Daryle made a bet with his oldest daughter Kiyera (16). Normally, Daryle loves his bald head, but decided it was time to show his love for the Giants…and his daughter.

He started growing his hair during the NLCS playoffs when the Giants clinched the division on October 3rd. He vowed not to cut it until the season was over. The moment the closing pitch landed in the Buster Posey’s glove to seal the divison title, Daryle told Kiyera that if the Giants win the World Series, she could shave his hair any way she wanted and that he would wear it that way for a day!! Well, you know the Giants won the World Series!! Go GIANTS!! Kiyera wasted no time after the game. With spectators in towe, she dragged Daryle into the bathroom to shave his head. Check out her masterpiece below! I think Daryle may be keeping this style for a while to show off how proud he is of Kiyera, and it looks pretty good on him!

For those of you who may not know Le Top is located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.  Things are pretty exciting around here right now – our home team is in the World Series!  Today was “Giants Day” in the office – with an explosion of Orange and Black clothing – Orange Cupcakes and Cookies and the low hum of dedicated sports fans discussing the series.  We snapped some photos – so the world will know where we stand:

GO GIANTS!!!

We live near the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit line and my daughter Lilah sees the trains go by on a daily basis. For months I had been promising her that I would take her for a BART ride into San Francisco. Of course, a full-day adventure to another city on public transportation can seem like a chore with kids since you have to prepare for a variety of ‘eventualities.’ We packed up her sippy cup, some toys, her blanket, a jacket (after all it is San Francisco and is surprisingly chilly in the summer), some snacks, and headed off to the BART station. Once there, I realized I had forgotten the bag with her toys and the sippy cup. Isn’t that the way it always happens?

Lilah on her BART ride to San Francisco

When the train came, Lilah was so excited. She couldn’t contain herself. At every stop she told us about the people that were getting on or off, that they were wearing the same color pants as her, had funny hair or some other LOUD statement. Everyone around us was laughing from the joy that seeing things through a kids eyes can bring. Have you noticed how a child’s happiness (or sadness) can change a person’s day? Ah parenthood.  Anyway, the excitement was more than she could bear and she was asleep by the time we went under the bay (15 minutes).

It was a fun but relatively uneventful day. The shear number of people in San Francisco overwhelmed my girl so it turned into a short but sweet trip. She talks about it often and can’t wait to do it again. Next she wants to ride a bus but that one might have to wait for a while…

Wow, we just had to let everyone know that the Pumpkin Weigh-off in Half Moon Bay was full of “Great Pumpkins!”  But the winner came all the way from Des Moines, Iowa and weighed in at a whopping 1,658 pounds!  That’s a lotta Pumpkin Pie folks!

From the photos it seems that everyone young and old had a great time!

Awe, so cute (source: sfgate.com)

We just loved the photo of the cute puppy in a pumpkin outfit!  We couldn’t help but notice the photo of the wife of Half Moon Bay’s mayor, Eda Muller, with her granddaughter Delfina Bianchi, 4 – Delfina is wearing le•top’s boucle jacket in PUMPKIN color from the Enchanted group!  She is carrying one of le•top’s pumpkin goody bags as well – nice choice!

Happy Pumpkin Festival to all our friends in Half Moon Bay!
