Big brother Nate pulling on Jake's loose tooth. Youngest brother, Zach: Ah! I can't watch!!
When I first saw these photos, it reminded me of one my brother sent a few years ago, wherein all the kids in the photo had one or two missing front teeth. Everyone in the photo was just around 7 or about to be, and, at that age, it’s a right of passage to lose your two front baby teeth! These photos are of Sweetie’s nephews, and though quite recent, Jake’s other front tooth came loose and went by way of the Tooth Fairy as well! As with most things related to childhood, it’s amazing to be reminded of how nature works…growing pains, the magical nature of baby teeth…tooth pulling methods! I think I remember my brother coming up with a contraption where he tied one end of a string around my loose tooth and the other end to a doorknob. Can you guess the rest of this story? 😉

Jake minus one tooth, but still smiling!
My mom used to tie a string around my loose tooth and she would just pull on it but let me tell you that was not something I enjoyed. It was a pain to try and pull my loose teeth out because I was always scared. I never wanted to tell my mom that I had a loose tooth because I knew what she would do. But I did like the end result, finding some money under my pillow – who doesn’t like that!
Jake is one tough customer!
I would not have allowed my brothers to put their fingers anywhere near my mouth!
My dad used to be the tooth puller in our family. He was always so funny about it – funny enough to distract us that none of us 5 kids felt a thing.
The best way I got a tooth out is when I bit into a hot dog and discovered that the loose tooth was gone and I had swallowed it down with my hot dog. Oops! At least it was painless. 🙂
I had 16 teeth pulled by the dentist, so needless to say I don’t have too many experiences of teeth coming out “naturally”, the only one I remember was at my grandma’s house and she had actually also suggested the door knob trick. I remember thinking ‘grandma, you must be crazy!’!
So what’s the going rate for teeth these days? We were lucky if we got a dollar!
