Erin T. (E.T. for short!) is expecting her first baby, a girl they are calling Emma Grace (ooooh, what a cute name!). We met up for lunch with her mom and a couple other friends (and yes, there was another Erin there, too! haha) to plan her baby shower. We were trying to think of games and activities (besides eating!) for the guests to participate in that were fun, classy and not too overdone. One of the activities we came up with was to each write a letter to baby Emma on a designated birthday (i.e. 3 years old, 10 years, old, etc), and seal it in an envelope. It seems like such a special thing for her to look forward to as she grows up, and for the first couple of years, for her mom and dad to look forward to opening as well! What other fun games and activities have you done at baby showers?
Baby Shower Fun and Games
January 20, 2009 by Kristin
Mmm… look at those delicious cupcakes! Is there something hidden in one of them? The person who finds the hidden “button” could win a prize.
My baby shower will be this weekend and I can’t wait to see what my sisters-in-law and mom have planned. I’m a scrapbook fanatic so I’m thinking there might be some scrapbook pages in the works.
My favorite game (and I’ve only been to two baby showers my entire life) is the legs crossing game. Everyone wears some sort of pin and the point of the game is not to cross your legs. If you get caught crossing your legs by someone else, that person can come over and just yank the pin right off you. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower gets a prize! Oh, and yes I have won this game at the two baby showers that I have been to.
I’ve played a version of the game described by Diana where, instead of not crossing your legs, you aren’t allowed to say “baby”.
Here are 2 of my favourites:
NAME GAME: Write the baby’s name down, (the meaning of the baby’s name and/or surname can also be added.) Have each guest make as many words as possible from the name. The person with the most words wins.
STRING GAME: For this game you’ll need yarn and scissors. Pass around the scissors and yarn (pastels colors are nice), have each guest guess how long of a piece will wrap around the mom-to- be’s waist. Measure the yarn around the mom’s waist, cut and pass around to each guest to find the closest one. The closest in length wins. This is a fun keepsake for the baby book.
Have fun!
One of my favorites is where you get a tray and fill it with baby items such as washclothes, diaper pins, baby hat, diaper rash cream, pacifiers, etcetra. You show everyone for about 15 seconds then have them write down what was on the tray. The person that gets the most right wins a prize. 15 items is a good number to have. I’ve never seen it where someone gets them all correct. Those that don’t know what some of the items are come up with very funny descriptions.
All great games! I am so excited to share these with the girls! I too have played most of these games at showers, including “dress the baby” where you diaper up a doll and have to dress it from head to toe in the fastest time!
Thanks you all these are great! keep them coming!
Now that everyone is so used to disposable diapers, it is fun to see if anyone can figure out how to fasten REAL cloth diapers with diaper safety pins (and make it look like it would realistically stay ON the baby… without leaks!) Large dolls or stuffed teddy bears work well as baby stand-ins for this race for the fastest time and most thorough job. This is particularly entertaining when you have some dads/dads-to-be/brothers at the shower and you want them to get involved in the fun! Hopefully you will have someone there who can actually show you how it’s done after everyone has made an attempt!
The best game by far is the one where you melt different types of chocolate bars and smear them all over diapers and the guests have to guess which chocolate bar is in which diaper…my personal favorites are Reeses, Baby Ruth, and Carmello. If guests are daring enough they may sample the chocolate too!
Bambi 😉 I love that game too! I definitely think that is my favorite, and though seemingly gross, I ALWAYS try the candy bar! LOL! I saw them play this on “The Girls Next Door” (guilty as charged of watching that show) and it was hilarious to watch “the girls” attempt to play this game!
Great Suggestion!
