At the birth of my baby — born after numerous sonograms throughout my pregnancy all indicated that I was having a baby girl — lo and behold the doctor announces, “You have a boy!” I immediately responded, “I don’t think so.” The doctor laughed and explained to me how his years of medical school and years of practice qualified him to see that I had a son – however, I still questioned him for a few minutes longer, stunned as I was that previous medical tests and staff had convinced me I was having a girl.
You guessed it…back to the drawing board on the nursery colors and returning all the pretty pink dresses from my baby shower — as well as the baby name!
Funny thing reading your story!! The same thing happened to me, but reversed!! My husband and I was told we were having a boy… by only from viewing the sonogram and the doctor telling us what he knows my husband wanted to hear!! Being Asian, my husband was very happy because he would be able to carry on the family name! Well, that all came to a halt, when our very first baby came popping out…our very beautiful baby girl!! I guess he wasn’t paying much attention because he still thought he had a beautiful boy… until I told him ‘she’ was a beautiful baby girl! lol!! omg… then 2-1/2 years later… our second baby came out… and squirted him in the face… yes, this was his baby boy that would carry on his family name!!!
Ah… yet another reason we don’t want to know the gender. You just never know until that baby comes out.
One of my best friends in Canada had a strong feeling that her first baby would be another tack on to these stories. So to make absolutely sure (well as much as possible inside the womb) they were going to have a girl, they went and did a 4D sonogram, and it looks like that is what she is going to get, A beautiful baby girl….so I am sending little girl dresses and track suits and tights, and holding my breath that this new technology is reliable! LOL!
A friend of mine from the U.K. told me that the doctors are not allowed to tell you what you’re having. Her brother’s wife is due any day so she ended up buying boy and a girl clothing for the baby. She wasn’t really sure why they do that. I thought it was odd.
Since I was over 35 when I was pregnant we had all the testing done. The doctor had told us previously our baby was a girl but until we got the test results showing girl chromosomes I didn’t believe it.
OMG!!!!!!! So I am freaking out now! I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and 3 different nurse practitioners told us it was a girl (because I didn’t believe them). We just went in to have another one done about 2 weeks ago and they couldn’t tell. The room is pink, the clothes are pink. I think I’m going to request another ultrasound just to be certain. Thanks blog! lol
