As parents, especially of little ones, it becomes tough deciding what to do on New Year’s Eve. Ever since my daughter was born, I haven’t celebrated New Year’s like I used to. That is… getting dressed up to go to a party, drinking champagne, dancing, getting home by 3 AM, then sleeping in the next day. The past four years has found us struggling just to keep our eyes open past 10 PM so we can at least see New York’s celebration. We go to bed shortly after that because we know our little girl will be waking us up for breakfast at the usual time.
This year we will be celebrating with other friends who are parents of little ones. We will try to party it up like we used to. But even if we don’t stay up late or dance the night away, we will at least be in the company of friends and all our children.
Staying at home with the kids and the grandkids becoming very wild and exciting – just wait!
I am still waiting on the perfect New Year’s Eve plans…after 4 kids, I think celebrating New Year’s becomes moot! I do have a teenager in the house so I am sure, it won’t be long when I’ll be doing some chauffering pretty soon.
My 5 year-old did ask today, “Mom, what’s the big deal about New Year’s anyway?” So I said, “Well, maybe 2009 will be a really good year!” She said, “Oh, what was wrong with this year?!” Oh, to be a kid again and no worries!
Cute story, Celina. 😉 Let’s hope 2009 will be a really great year for you!
Our perfect solution came when we moved into this house and our next door neighbors have kids our kids’ ages. Between the two houses we have Wii, a pool table, girl toys (us), boy toys (them), new Christmas gifts to play with, and big screen TVs to toast every hour until the kids poop out. Last year the kids lasted past midnight and we ALL slept in. And…no designated driver needed! This year we are doing the same but inviting 2 other families to spend the night and we’re doing a Murder Mystery Dinner…with the kids as our waiters/waitresses.
So, Ive never really been into the whole New Years thing. Its too expensive and crowded. I like house parties. I think I’ve actually been with Jamee at least once during New Years, although I can’t remb. That doesn’t say much though…..we used to drink more than our share….This year I was supposed to go to a party but our host got the flu. So maybe Ill go out to dinner with my friend. Believe me ….youre not missing much in the single land…………
Karen – I think what I miss most is the sleeping in part.
