Last Sunday morning, I felt like having pancakes. So while Daddy and daughter were busy upstairs (playing, reading, watching TV), I decided to go downstairs and make breakfast. I opened a box of premix, added water and eggs, and heated up the griddle. While I poured the first scoop of batter onto the pan, I started to rummage through the pantry to see what else I can have. Hmm… what can I do with these mini peanut butter cups? …DING! I’m going to make smiley pancakes.
I dumped most of the container of mini PB cups into the batter mix (saving a few for eyes), then I started to hear my family’s footsteps coming down the stairs. I rushed to finish at least one smiley pancake for my daughter so I can surprise her. I quickly cut up a kiwi for hair, sprayed the face on with whipping cream, put two mini PB cups for the eyes, then set the plate on my daughter’s place at the table. I couldn’t wait to show her my “masterpiece!”
While I pretended to be occupied with my pancake flipping duty, I heard my daughter gasp, “Mommy, I LOVE my happy face pancake!”
“I knew you would love it. Have a seat and eat breakfast.”
She licked off all the whipped cream and discovered that there were little hidden peanut butter and chocolate treasures in the pancake. That practically blew her mind. “MOMMY! HOW DID ALL THESE LITTLE CHOCOLATE PIECES GET IN HERE?!”
“It’s Mommy Magic, Darling!”
It’s the little things like this that make being a mother so rewarding.
Jamee, I resisted commenting because I’m the editor…but this is such a sweet story and so heartwarming. Thank you for sharing this.
